Tucker suspended 2 games

TSN is reporting that Darcy Tucker has been suspended 2 games for his hit on Gonchar last night. It baffles me how 2 referees did not make a call on the hit last night. He left his feet and led with his elbow. Nothing like taking out the highest scoring defenseman in the league.

Typical NHL. Then we have to listen to Gary Bettman tell all of us that everything is great with the game. The league should put in place a rule that if you put a player on the injury list due to an illegal play that the player who made the illegal play is suspended for at least the same amount of time the injured player is out for. Maybe this would stop players from taking liberties on one another.

I would take it one step farther and make it the suspension doesn't even begin until the injured player returns.

hypothetically speaking of course...

what happens when you get a star like LeClair slashing Corson in the playoffs, breaking his hand? If I was coach, I'd sit out Corson for rest of series regardless if it was broken or not.

I agree on a morale level (gave alot of thought to this during the McSorley/Braseur incident) but such a rule can be abused.

True, it is an abusable rule, but if the NHL sees fit to suspend, then suspend. Regardless! The league has to look at all incidents seperately, but the Tucker "flying" hit, Brasher/McSorley, Matt Johnson nailing Jeff Beukeboom are all dirty hits and the league has got to take a stand.

i agree, i thought he should have gotten more....
he DID leave his feet....and it's unbelievable how none of the refs saw it...

excuses:

ref 1: it wasn't my zone....it wasn't for me to be watching there...

ref 2: i was looking up at the scoreboard....

I agree.
I don't think Bettman will ever do what's best for hockey, that's all we hear is how well it's doing, yet losing viewers more and more.

Stunning how players have no respect for each other. The NHL and players union have to get together for the good of the game and fans.

But they won't, those two things are at the bottom of their priority list.

I was listening to the Blue Jackets radio show tonight, and they had former Cap and present TV analyst Craig Laughlin on. Laughlin said that Gonchar did travel with the Caps to Columbus but he almost certainly would not play Saturday or Sunday night. He loses at least two games and Tucker only loses two as well for a cheapshot. Go figure. Bettman is a spineless wonder who is just a yes-man for the owners anyway. If anyone believes him when he says all is well in the NHL, hey, I've got some swamp-land in Idaho to sell you.

Per Wilson Gonchar is supposed to try the morning skate today and if he has no headaches afterwards is expected to play tonight. Wilson has been known to be less than forthcoming about injuries before, so it is hard to put any faith in that.
