I'm probably walking into the trap of the day. I glanced at the lines this morning and thought, "they've got to be kidding. No way Char should be worse than a pick". Then I cap the game and come up with 93-93 and I don't even believe that. NJ has only got 90 or more twice all year. Take those two games out of the equation and they are ave a whopping 77 points per game. I know high school teams that score more than that (I do realize that the d is tougher in the NBA). My point being that if NJ isn't the worst team in the NBA it's not their fault. They're working hard at it. According to Mourning. his team mates don't mind losing. That's a reflection on the coaching. Speaking of coaching, that reminds me of something I saw a few years ago. Back in the days when we were lucky to get 1 game a week of NCAA basketball on TV there was a pretty good coach at Kentucky that some of you younger guys might not of heard of. His name was Adolph Rupp. Well that year Kentucky was the pre-season pick to win it all and most writers said they wouldn't lose a game. By the first SEC game of that year they had already lost two games, they were playing Miss. and the game was on national TV. In those days Miss was the doormat of the SEC and probably couldn't have made it to the finals of the high school tournament. Kentucky had a 10 point lead with a little over a minute to go and lost in regulation. Now Rupp wasn't exactly what you would call a mild mannered man and the TV people made the mis-take of sticking the mike in his face as he left the floor. "Coach Rupp, what do you have to say about this"? Rupp was hot and his response to the best of my recollection was "these guys don't want to win. I'll promise you on thing. The next time we play there will be five guys out there that want to win and it won't be none of these guys". The following week 3 of the five starters left school and the other two never played another minute for Rupp. He took his bench and lost 1 more game the rest of the year. The finals of the NCAA tournament. The team was called Rupp's Runts because the tallest player (I believe it was Pat Reilly) was only 6-4. The difference between then and now is the coach will be the first to go.
I've already played the ML on Char but if the line don't go below 3 before gametime I'll buy out of it.
There's a couple more out there that looks odd but I'll watch the lines on them. Avery Johnson will make a good head coach and I'm looking forward to how he does tonight.
