I was gonna sit this one out, lick my wounds and just watch tonight, but there are a couple of plays on the card that I kept going back to when trying to handicap, so I am going to play 'em:

DETROIT TIGERS (+145) I thought this line would be lower, given the fact that Philadelphia is sending Brian Powell to the mound, having pitched only one inning in relief this year, and fresh off the 15 day DL with shoulder soreness. Manager Larry Bowa didn't exactly give him a real boost of confidence either, saying the Phils were, "just trying to tread water" until Wolf and Padilla get back. On the other hand, the Detroit newspapers are full of Tiger manager Alan Trammell praising Jeremy Bonderman and his work ethic, and they feel he was back on track in his last start before leaving the game after 2 innings and a rain delay. I also like that the Tigers have won 4 of their last 5, and they were not playing baseball at 2:00 this morning. ;)

LOS ANGELES DODGERS (-120) Jose Lima takes his 4-2 record and 4.02 ERA to the mound tonight looking for another good outing in an effort to keep his spot in the starting rotation. He also pitched better than the numbers indicate in his last start in Toronto, where he lost 4-0 to the streaking Miguel Batista. Lima had one bad inning, but otherwise impressed me in the 7 that he worked. Then there's the Orioles, who played two games on Saturday and got beat on Sunday in Baltimore, flew to Cleveland only to get their asses handed to them on Monday, and then headed for LA. I don't think the mindset of this team is real healthy right now, and for a team that has struggled to put runs on the board more games than not recently, I don't think Baltimore is in a very good spot here.

I also wanted to play the Brewers, but sooner or later the Mariners have to score for Freddy, so I stayed away, and I know this is a bit biased, but I think the Jays have a legitimate shot tonight with Batista on the mound....Batista is hitting his stride, and Schmidt is due for a let down any time now, but I can't bet on the "he's due" angle in this one?

Good Luck tonight,

Sharky

Hey WC......I am completely buffaloed by these numbers. Freddy has now pitched 92 innings, and while he was in there, the Mariners have still only scored 20 runs! That is roughly 1 run for every 4 2/3 innings pitched by Garcia, and they have been shutout 3-0 in both his last two starts, and have only scored a total of 2 runs for him in the month of June.

Either this guy is servicing some Mariner wives and has a lot of teammates unhappy with him, or he is the unluckiest prick that ever drew breath??

i keep hearing he is going to the yanks for jose contreras and their big prospect catcher navarro.

Thanks a lot guys. See everyone tomorrow.....I am looking at laying some chalk with Wilson and the Reds, but it looks like Dominguez won't be able to go for the Rangers, so I'd like to see how that plays out. Also attracted to the Tigers again - they're playing good ball, Maroth has been fairly solid all year and they're at +160.
Gonna sleep on it.........
