MLB counts the one-game wild card as a play-in game and COUNTS it in the regular season record.

It is possible, no matter how unlikely, that they COULD finish 81-82 officially.

Yea, it's not happening like that, BUT in 1992 after Sid Bream jogged home despite Barry "rifleman" Bonds' best attempt to throw him out from deep shortstop I think people would have laughed just as hard at the notion of 2013 being the next winning season.
