startin' with the game on the smurf turf. here's a fun game you can play at home... start a pool where everybody guesses how long into the broadcast until one of the witty announcers says "do not adjust your television, folks. the turf really is blue." followed by his partner laughing hysterically. great stuff.

nevada (-3) 2 units. this line movement tells me i'm on the right side. the action on this website looks like it's about 50/50. i'm in a pool where everybody picks the winners... 25 out of 30 are on maryland. me likey. anyways, nevada can run the ball, as they only need to slightly top their average output to surpass navy for the #1 rushing team in the country. and maryland is not stellar at stopping the run, as they are 72nd in the country, allowing 149 ypg and almost 4 yards per carry. on the other side of the ball, nevada is also very good at stopping the run. if they can make maryland's offense one-dimensional, i like their chances.

as far as motivation goes, that also favors nevada. with a few weeks left in the season, maryland still had their sights on the acc championship game. travelling to boise to play nevada... a definite letdown. i think the wolfpack have a lot to prove today. they were shutout in their bowl game last year. and 2 years ago, they lost this bowl game to miami, 21-20.

western mich (+3) 1 unit. starting to like this play more, now that i see everybody on rice. as bad as the mac was this year, i think western mich isn't THAT bad. they way they stepped up their defense and held illinois to 17 points shows me they have something on that side of the ball. and that win is more impressive than any win on rice's schedule. their blowout loss to ball state was disappointing, but here's their chance at redemption.

holy line move, batman. this became a larger play when i saw the sudden (seemingly) unexplained line move.

oregon (+1) 2 units. at first glance, you have two very good offensive teams and not much defense. but look a little closer at oregon... while they rank 80th in total defense (just 6 slots ahead of ok st), they only give up 4.86 yards per play. that ranks 28th in the country. obviously there will be a lot of points scored in this game, but i think oregon has a better chance of getting a couple stops.
