Just a quick, dumb question.

For clarification...

when you list
Buff under 2-0-4 last 6 you mean: 2 over, 0 under, 4 push, not that the under has won 2, lost 0, and pushed 4 times.

Thanks

coyotes

coyotes

motivated??

Phoenix has always had success against the Flames (23-23-8-2). In the past 26 meetings between the clubs, the Coyotes are 19-3-4. They also won both games played this season, a 2-1 overtime victory in Calgary and a 6-3 rout in Phoenix.

"It was a difficult defeat," Coyotes coach Bobby Francis said after the loss to the Oilers. "But it's just another opportunity to show our resiliency, which we have all year long, and I expect us to respond in the proper manner. We have to be concerned about Calgary, and I think we'll be ready."

Several Phoenix players have reasons to be motivated.

Goalie Sean Burke has allowed nine goals in the past two games. He knows that's not good enough, not if the Coyotes expect to close the gap on the handful of clubs with which they are battling for a playoff spot.

"I know what I've got to do. I've got to stop the puck. I can't give up four goals in a period," said Burke, who has held opponents to two goals or fewer in 28 of his 39 starts. "We can't give up a lead. That's inexcusable. We're professionals and we became unraveled (against Edmonton) and played like amateurs."

Center Michal Handzus, meanwhile, has a chip on his shoulder after his native Slovakia was knocked out of the Winter Olympics during its qualifying tournament. He was on the ice during the Slovaks' 3-0 upset loss Saturday to Germany and it was his penalty, an uncharacteristic roughing minor, that led to a German power-play goal.

Coupled with a 6-6 tie against Latvia on Sunday, Slovakia failed to advance to the medals round, meaning Handzus and his fellow countrymen on the Coyotes, Radoslav Suchy and Ladislav Nagy, will miss their dream of playing in the Olympics.

"All I care about now is these next two games against Calgary and LA," Handzus said.

Sykora, Snow,

Sykora, Snow,

I guess put it here Wigs. I don't hear many opinions one way or another. I think the only problem is if two sets of info collecting threads start, things can get confusing. Unless the one is too big!

Sorry Allwrong. I was in a hurry. I usually write it as "under has hit 2-0-4 last 6 Buffalo games". You would have won the under 2-0-4 in last 6. If you used closing line from Mirage. Record might be different with another book. Olympic, for example, uses more 4.5 lines than anyone.

Daily News sez Devil Sykora "missed the Sabres game [sun] with bruised ribs, hopes toplay tonight". And Osgood "might give way to backup Garth Snow tonight".

Snow blanked Phila last meeting, at Phila. He's 2-5-0 vs his former team, 3.24 gga, .903 pct. On this season he's 7-5-2, 2.90 gga, .890 pct

NYI were winless in 9 games at Phila until the two wins this season.

Phil paper sez "Jiri Dopita (back strain) should be in the lineup tonight after missing five games".

pitt paper.........

The Senators will be without C Petr Schastlivy (knee), LW Andre Roy (ankle) and RW Mike Fisher (shoulder). Also, D Sami Salo left practice early with a strained groin yesterday and is questionable for tonight. The Senators have recalled C Steve Martins from Grand Rapids to fill the hole left by the absense of Mike Fisher (shoulder). Martins has one goal in 10 games with Ottawa this season-- Ricard Persson, who has played the last two games (one on defence, the other as a winger) will return to the sidelines tonight ... He and Shane Hnidy will be the healthy scratches

Darius Kasparaitis will be suspended by the NHL for the game tonight if the Penguins are unsuccessful in an appeal to the league. well just checked pitt's other paper and looks like he will play: "the Penguins' appeal was upheld, and Kasparaitis was cleared to play against the Senators.
Kehoe added LW Stephane Richer to the top line with C Mario Lemieux and RW Aleksey Morozov for practice and said he would give it a look tonight.

The ugly fashion in which the Penguins lost Sunday, allowing Barnaby a goal with 21.1 seconds left, remained the main topic yesterday. C Robert Lang called it "disgusting." G Johan Hedberg called it "really tough." Kehoe called it "a bitter, bitter loss." Kehoe uncharacteristically declined to speak to reporters after that game and explained why yesterday. "I was a little hot. It wasn't that I blew you guys off. It's just that there were some things I wasn't real happy about. Especially that last goal."

Lalime and Hedberg expected in nets

ottawa story, not a bad article on tonights game, things to ponder--

Should be a good one....

Even the most ardent Buffalo Sabres fan must admit the prospects of making the postseason aren't favorable.
The odds were against a playoff berth before last weekend, and they appear even longer after Sunday's humbling 4-1 road loss to the New Jersey Devils - the very team the Sabres are chasing in the playoff race.

It was a big game supposedly.

Now, instead of gaining considerable ground on the Devils, the Sabres must win tonight's rematch in HSBC Arena (7, Empire, 107.7 FM) to reclaim the position they held days ago.

"If you wanted to call the game we played (Sunday) big, this one's even bigger now," Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said. "They got their licks in on home ice. We've gotta make it a big night on our ice.

"You're hoping that (Sunday) was just a blip on the map, and a big one."

Another Sabres defeat would put them 10 points and four teams behind the Devils for eighth place in the Eastern Conference heading into the Olympic break.

"You never say "That's it,' but in this league 10 points behind is an extremely hard feat to overcome," Buffalo center Chris Gratton said.

"Anything other than two points (tonight) is going to be a major setback."

The Sabres have played well in the past month, but they fell farther behind in the conference.

Even before they went 8-4-2 with a five-game unbeaten streak prior to Sunday, they actually were one slot higher in the standings and only six points out of eighth place.

Several Sabres were asked on Monday how realistic their postseason playoff chances were.

Defenseman Jay McKee: "They're realistic if we play well. If we play like we did (Sunday) we have no chance."

Defenseman Rhett Warrener: "It's going to be tough, but our heart's set on making it. We're not that far off. We need a big win (tonight). That's the start of it."

Forward Erik Rasmussen: "It's real realistic. We're working toward something. Either we totally shut it down and just give up and say we're out of the race, or you go out there and give it your all."

Gratton: "Funnier things have happened. You're never going to count yourselves out of it. It's far from over."

Defenseman Jason Woolley: "It's something you always hope and believe is going to happen, no matter what it takes or whatever you gotta do. There's no one around here thinking we're not going to make it, and that's important."

The Sabres were embarrassed by their performance in New Jersey and vowed a noticeable difference tonight. But if they're unable to beat the defending Eastern Conference champs, the Sabres will have a long time to think about their predicament.

Buffalo doesn't play again until Feb. 26. The schedule is breakneck from there.

"When we get back it's going to be 25 games in 47 nights," Warrener said. "That many games in that short a time, if you play well you've got your-self set up. But if you get on a downward spiral, it's going to be the same way - it's going to be tough to get out because you have no time to regroup."

he question before the Devils Sunday, after they had won for the fourth time in six games under Kevin Constantine, was whether they're finally starting to feel better about their position in the Eastern Conference.

Bobby Holik was almost ready to answer affirmatively. Almost.

"Ask me that question on Tuesday," Holik said, "after the game."

Well, Tuesday is here, and with it comes a pivotal game. The Devils, who beat the Sabres, 4-1, Sunday, visit them tonight in their final game before the Olympic break.

The Devils (25-21-8-3) can achieve their first three-game winning streak since late October and further solidify their standing in the East, where they stood seventh prior to last night, tied with the Rangers.

"It's a very crucial, very crucial game for us to know where we're heading," Holik said. "Not where we are, but where we're heading. Whether we're heading in the right direction. Whether we're developing a pattern or still riding the roller coaster."

The pattern under Constantine so far has been more victories and fewer goals allowed. The Devils have allowed just eight goals in Constantine's six games, committing themselves to details like blocking shots.

"We're playing how Kevin wants us to play and we're getting better every game," captain Scott Stevens said.

All of the Devils made the trip to Buffalo yesterday, including nicked-up forwards Petr Sykora, John Madden and Valeri Kamensky.

Sykora missed the Sabres game with bruised ribs but hopes to play tonight. Madden bled profusely Sunday after taking a Denis Hamel stick in the nose, and Kamensky left after being hit in the right leg and colliding with a Buffalo player.

A Devils victory tonight would effectively turn the race for the final two playoff spots into a three-team derby ? the contestants being the Devils, Rangers and Canadiens. The Sabres (23-26-6-1) are already eight points behind New Jersey; the Penguins and Capitals were seven back prior to last night.

sports junkie thanks for the info

center ice, thanks for the words, just trying to contribute and dont like to post my plays all the time as i am still learning a lot so i end up pasting a lot of info i read during the day......

from buf web site, announcer's column............

One of the sins Buffalo committed in New Jersey was giving the puck away, especially in the neutral zone. The New Jersey trap system is designed to create turnovers, and it worked to perfection against Buffalo on Sunday.

"In that last game, they put us in situations where we turned the puck over," said Lindy Ruff. "But then again, we really helped them. We were careless. We need to play much smarter especially in that neutral zone.

"The Devils are a tough team to generate offense against. They??ve bought into a strict defensive system. I expect a low scoring game, and a game where there won??t be many scoring chances. We must be opportunistic; when we get the scoring chance we must bear down and take advantage of it."

Martin Brodeur starts in goal tonight for New Jersey. Buffalo must make good shoot-ins against him and prevent him from handling the puck whenever possible.

The other Martin, Marty Biron will start for Buffalo. Biron was pulled after two periods in Sunday??s game. He allowed four goals on thirteen shots.
Lindy Ruff said this morning that the "Entertainment Committee" would be in the lineup. That means that Eric Boulton will dress and play with Rob Ray and Chris Gratton.

Lindy also mentioned that he was considering dressing James Patrick. If he does, look for Dimitri Kainin to sit this one out. This will be coaches?? game time decision.

VANCOUVER

VANCOUVER

from the sun and province---

Skudra in nets---Although his sprained left ankle is responding better in practice, don't expect goalie Dan Cloutier to suit up until Feb. 26 against St. Louis. "My goal is to be back after the Olympic break at 100 per cent and go from there," said Cloutier. ... Injured defenceman Murray Baron is skating and could play if needed tonight but will likely wait to mend a knuckle he broke blocking a shot Jan. 28. "I haven't tried slappers but the guys say I can't shoot anyway so it doesn't really matter," said Baron, who has yet to score a goal this season.

Jarkko Ruutu, a healthy scratch for 13 straight games while the Canucks hit stride, couldn't work his way back into the lineup until today. And that's only because Trent Klatt has recurring pain from an inflamed pubic joint that sidelined him?KRuutu is playing for the Finnish Olmpic team
As much as the Vancouver Canucks tried to maintain their focus on tonight's meeting with the Boston Bruins, the obvious Olympic focus overshadowed those preparations on Monday.
It started with a pre-practice photo shoot with Jovanovski, Naslund, Mattias Ohlund and Jarkko Ruutu clad in their country's respective colours.
And it ended with post-practice queries about the international ice surface, adjusting to new teammates and keeping fingers crossed that a last-minute NHL injury doesn't destroy an Olympic dream. (more a commentary here about watching what you play the last few days)

lastly from slam

"We'll need our goalie to be very strong for us tonight. We'll need to use our speed and transition game to be successful," said Crawford, following Vancouver's optional practice Tuesday morning at General Motors Place. Not attending the on-ice session were Olympians Ed Jovanovski, Mattias Ohlund and Markus Naslund along with Todd Bertuzzi and Andrew Cassels

"It should be a pretty good offensive show tonight. Both teams are very good offensively. Boston shoots a lot and gets in quick looking for rebounds and we'll have to guard against that. We'll have to concentrate on our defence but not at expense of our offense."
