One early:

LSU laying 7 over Utah. . .

Being an avid Arizona fan, I've had the opportunity to watch my team go into LSU as decided favorites and lose most (if not all but I think Arizona was able to pull out one game) of those games. What I noticed was that LSU's rims are a lot different from most college basektball rims IMO. I know that sounds funny but the ball just doesn't come off the rim the same as it does on most rims! Utah has always been a team that focuses on perimeter shooting and smart team play in order to stay in games. They will get a few easy looks from time to time, but for the most part I expect them to have to hit from medium to long range to stay competitive in this one. Given the rims and the home court advantage for LSU, I think the Tigers roll in this situation. I expect LSU to have a decent rebounding advantage and a relatively low shooting percentage for the Utes.

Above average play.

only thing thats scares me is the schedule strength of both teams to this point. lsu -- like usual -- is padding their schedule with cupcakes early. south carolina got exposed tonight vs temple in the same kind of situation. that being said, lsu is a pretty good team. i made some good cash on em toward the end of last season in the sec tourney. lloreda is a bitch to handle right now. huge numbers to this point. i think we agree that utah is a team you want to jump on early. if they suck you into their tempo, youre done. but if you can get ahead of em early on, they cant play catch up. utes have played a far superior schedule to this point. im a little leery of goin against em, ya know what i mean?

by the way, great call on eastern washington (as well as osu 1h). always appreciate talking hoops with someone who possesses an impressive basketball acumen.

Thanks Gman. . . I agree. . . jump on Utah early or else you will end up playing their game until the very end. For me this again comes down to the Utes shooting the ball. . . in order to get inside against LSU, they will have to spread out the defense by being able to hit outside jumpers. . . I just do not see it on LSU's homecourt (on a regular basis). If this game was being played at BYU, I'd gladly lay 7 on BYU

But yes, I look for strength of schedule as well. . . teams that have their first real test a few weeks into the new season are great fades against those that have been tested early but I usually like to fade them as long as they aren't playing at home. . .

I just look at this number and think that many will bite on Utah because it looks like they are getting a great value at +7 in what should be a low scoring game.

BTW, ETSU screwed us over. . . we should have gotten paid for that pick. If I had it to do over again, I'd play it every single time. Overall, we'll win more of those than we lose as you well know.

will be interesting to see if utah ends up being the side with more action. personally, i think espn games stick in the mind of the public more than anything. and the utes were brutal in their 2 most recent espn games in the NIT tourney -- getting blasted by both texas tech and uconn. honestly, i dont know if much looks good tomorrow. seems like sort of a dull card.

and as far as etsu goes.........im still very annoyed with the outcome of that game. i mean up 81-74 with 1:00 to go and getting points should be safe. terrible finish for the bucs. but yeah youre right -- its all about backing teams in good spots, and that was a good spot for etsu. theyre still a good team and i look forward to backing em again in the right situation come conference play. but that loss stings. totally flipped my bottom line for the day.

16 day layoff for LSU scares me. I'll be there and may play LSU if the house is packed.

And they haven't been very impressive against the cupcakes. Beat Southern by 11, McNeese by 10, Troy State by 9. Seems like a lot of points......

I definitely agree the layoff takes a little away from this play. That being said, I still feel its an above average play. . . just not a big play.

Can't find anything else I like tonight. . . but will likely have halftime bets for those who stick around with me :D

Michigan State/ South Florida under 69 2nd half average

Michigan State is killing this team nearly shooting 60% but only 42 points. Pace in this one is slow. I don't expect MSU to change anything. Defense should be the key.
