michigan state/illinois under 146
maybe im missing something, but i cant see this one being played in the 70s. i know michigan state has put up some big numbers their last 4 games (totals of 154,161,156, and 157) -- so perhaps that can at least explain the opening line -- but when it comes down to it, these are two of the best (and most physical) defensive teams in the big 10. and when they get together, it shows. the last handful of meetings in this series havent gone anywhere near this number. obviously personnel changes, but with this being a big game (even though neither team is in the top 25, which is strange for this series) i cant see anything but a bruising, grind-it-out game.
also something worth noting is michigan state with some big revenge for last seasons debacle in illinois. spartans got absolutely drilled (70-40).
last 10 meetings:
illinois 70-40 (110 pts)
msu 68-65 (133 pts)
illinois 63-61 (124 pts)
msu 67-61 (128 pts)
illinois 77-66 (143 pts)
msu 76-61 (137 pts)
msu 91-66 (157 pts)
msu 67-50 (117 pts)
msu 61-44 (105 pts)
msu 51-49 (100 pts)
again, maybe im getting sucked in. perhaps both teams will light it up and play a game in the high 70s. but i dont see it. izzo's style didnt all the sudden become run-n-gun in big games. i think this one lands around 138-139 or so.
