lets hear it for two of the ncaa's most consistent underachievers!
tennessee vs georgetown.
two programs that also seem to do the least with the most.

having said that, playing:

2 units....georgetown (+5) over tennessee

the vols losing higgins hurts them IMMENSELY. that team already had no true floor general- but he was the closest they had. wouldnt surprise me to see the vols put forth a very sloppy effort in this one. and sweetney will dominate the match-up with slay in my opinion. as long as the hoyas dont completely self-destruct, they should win this game outright.

Hey Gman what do you think of Brown?

This is what i wrote on another thread.. just want your feedback..

I like Brown +11.5 against UVA... I honestly think Brown can win outright. UVA only seems to get up for bigger games. They got swept by clemson, got drilled by FSU and swept by g tech & lost to Ohio. I just cant see UVA being that motivated to try and KILL Brown. Brown is a solid team that I think can hang within 5-7 pts the entire game, unless Billet hits like 9 three's. I like brown plus the pts. UVA doesnt really care about the NIT while a team like BRown does and has more discipline and will cover the pts imo....

thanks for the reply in advance!

woizee:

im still amazed virginia had they type of season they did. that team probably has top-3 talent in the acc EASILY, yet they finished damn near last in the conference. theyve got big time players, but they just have no direction.

a few things worth noting:

1) as with any line, first instinct for me is to look incredulously at the opening line. and in this case, i am indeed incredulous. the line looks strange. i think everyone's first reaction is to consider brown here. is that wrong? im not sure. this game is tricky

2) heres something strange. the only teams virginia beat by 11 or more this entire season were florida state, liberty, wofford, and KENTUCKY. lmao. who would have ever thought virginia would have whooped up on kentucky this year. but it happened. way back early when the cavs had promise to their season. seems like forever ago.

3) going back to point #1, virginia is laying 11.5 points and theyve lost STRAIGHT UP in 8 of their last 9 games. why is vegas making them an 11.5 point chalk?

conclusion:

just a tough game to figure out. theres an ENORMOUS class difference between these two teams, and thats what scares me from even considering brown. a lot of these upper-tier ivy league teams are scheduling good non-conference games (yale played at wake forest this year, princeton played at texas, penn played at southern cal) but brown has played NOBODY near the athletic level of virginia. browns marquee game is providence, and they got ripped by 19. they lost to san francisco by 29. lost to rhode island by 19.

brown had a good ivy league season. but i could never trust brown, especially with their non-conference track record this season, to put up any fight vs virginia.

dont get me wrong- the cavaliers will probably be dis-interested. but i think even a disinterested virginia team will have no problem at all with brown.

id look to the over in this one. both teams put up a lot of points, and both teams probably wont be bringing their A-level defense.

Gman thanks for the feedback.. My take is that UVA just seems to play to the level of their competition (i.e. Ohio) and when their SEASON was on the line this year, they lost to clemson at home. last yr UVA didnt do shit in the NIT either.. i just have a feeling with brown, but i like your gtown play and may just go with that one.. the thing is UVA lacks discipline and makes SOOO MANY dumb turn overs but i may look at that over like you suggested....

you may be right

you may be right

I read a gambling book over 20 years ago by a legend/guru, im sorry his name escapes me, but he was in on the ole minnesota line evolution birth, etc ... he had one chapter in his book entitled:

NEVER ASK A BROWN TO WIN FOR YOU :nono:

and he was talking about the Ivys

meaning, never ask crap to come thru ... now whether this is them or not, Im not sure :topic: , but it struck me as funny as you guys talked about it ... the last time Brown made the NCAAs (like it was a billion years b4 that if ever), they drew Cuse and Seikaly, Coleman, et al, and got whomped by 50 ... my part in that was, I coached Brown's starting 5 man from 6-8th grade, hehe ... taught him how to take the ball outta the hoop ...

Gman any thought on Providence over Richmond getting +1? Providence has been playing well as of late and took pitt basically down to the last 2 mins of that game. I think they got a good chance at winning that one.. just seeing what you thought?

Lookin at Wed. as well I really like St Louis (- 5.5 and ML) I think Minn has just gone to hell over the last 2-3 weeks.. that Nwestern performance was just plain UGLY!! Saw no heart or fight in that team...

just a note about brown/va - gman is right, the talent differential is huge between these two teams. i've got a feeling that gillian's cavs break out of their o-fer postseason streak in a big way tonight.

final plays for tuesday
2 units....georgetown (+5) over tennessee
1 unit.....boston college over 146.5

normally, in an under player, but NIT = overs in the right spots. teams just say "fu/ck defense" a lot of the time

gotta love it when you can pad your bankroll with the NIT before the real tourney begins.

Gman great call on gtown. I saw the line at 4 and I hesitated and decided to play Sienna instead and got the same result. I am trying to pad the bankroll as well to give me some cushion and playing room for the tourney... i cant wait!!
