For Dry1

For Dry1

I usually just lurk (or vent) since I'm an absolutely pitiful handicapper myself so let me say first how much I am indebted to guys like Thunder (and there are lots of other free posters here who are excellent cappers) who go to the trouble EVERY DAY of putting up their selections for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Since I found MadJacks I have gone from a big loser to a moderate winner - and that's a hell of a difference.

For my new friend, Dry1,

Listen buddy, we've ALL been there at one time or another. You're getting great advice from some experienced people here and I will reiterate.

1) If you're going to coattail someone then do it religiously. Don't pick and choose on the bets, don't vary your wager size, don't make your own plays (unless they are for miniscule amounts). When you jump around you endlessly chase winning streaks and invariably you will end up jumping into a successful cappers losing streaks - everyone has them, you just ride them out.

2) Get several places to make your wagers. This is an absolutely MUST. You will NEVER do very well until you have multiple outs because about 2-3% of your plays will fall on the number and the hook will kill you. Just figure up how much different your bankroll would be if you won an additional 2% instead of losing that amount of money over a season - it's substantial.

3) Gambling is TOUGH, period. I suppose this sounds like a lecture (it is) but complaining about your losses accomplishes nothing. There is no gambling God, karma has nothing to do with it, just because you bet on a game has nothing to do with it's outcome regardless of how it appears. You're a speck in the ointment my friend so accept that fact, take the emotion out of it and thicken your hide. Or quit gambling because if it really bothers you that much it will drive you crazy.

So, WHY do I go to this trouble? Because my friend Dry1, I lost over $100K several years back, ended up in bankruptcy, nearly lost my wife, my kids, everything, because of my gambling. I DO believe that those events qualify me to give you this lecture. I want to prevent that from ever happening to anyone again because I very nearly committed suicide. You can get my addy from MJ and e-mail if you want to talk this out some more in private. I only wish to help you.

My gosh Skinar, of all the time that I lurked here, I don't think that I every read anything about that. Thank you for having the guts and willingness to set pride aside to come in here and say that. I hope that life finds you in a better place now and in the future.

great post skinar- and hopefully you were able to earn back what you lost. one of the most humbling things i have ever read. thanx for the kind words and thank you for sharing what i think many others fall into. in my early 20s before i lost a plenty with pay services, and picking what i thought would be good bets i was a sucker. so about 10 years ago i discovered the internet and the wealth of info at my fingertips. so i started capping- ilost my first year but only marginally- then i started really to get a feel for what is going on. and well lets just say things turned around over the last 9 years. i then discovered this sight- watched a while and figured why not share the way i do my hobby. and it is that a hobby. i am not one of those lock guys or get involved in stuff that frankly not my business unless i have been asked. i share on this forum to show one can get quality info without a agenda or trying to scam someone. if i told you how i lost my first 5 years gambling you probably laugh. but my books loved me. now i have thought about going pay and have been asked about joining others in some type of service. but it just is not my hot button. i make plenty at my real job- iput in about 20hrs aweek so i have time to cap and share. and have noticed over time that my time is merited for the amount of interst in my thoughts. alot of quality cappers on this site have gone pay and i hope there businesses are going well. and i will never bash someone for going that route. i post 90% of my plays for everyone to see and feel terrible when i lose not so much because i lost but i know there might be one or 2 people that have there hard earned cash on them. i hope everybody does well and never falls into the traps skinar and myself have stumbled into the past.

PUHD and THUNDER

Thanks guys - in a way your comments make my past misery seem to have some meaning. I once heard the saying 'No one is a complete failure, they can always serve as a bad example' and I think my gaming clearly attains that stature. THUNDER, I haven't come close to recouping my losses but I don't really have that as a goal, just being able to play without losing sleep keeps me entertained and that's the way I approach this now. I LOST all that money using pay services by the way. I know some of the cappers who have left here and gone to pay services and I wish them the best, but to be honest it seems something happens when people begin selling their picks, what I have noticed is that the quality seems to slip a little, I think it's due to the pressure of the business. I certainly don't blame anyone for making a buck though and I know that those guys do their honest best for their clients every day.

It's just a very, very tough business.

Since I'm such a rotten capper I try to contribute to the board in the area of mental management and money management. The long time players will recognize that those attributes are every bit as important as winning selections.

PUHD - It's not easy for anyone to admit that they have been such a total dumbass as I have been, thanks for the comments.

So, enough for the personal angst - let's get back to KICKING THE MAN!!!

:)
