UConn (-2.5) over Providence

UConn looks to rebound after a tough loss to the Heels on Sunday. Turn-overs by the huskies were HUGE in that game, Connecticut finished with 22 turnovers, leading to 22 North Carolina points. Freshman guard Kellogg was a big disappointment for UConn backers. The huskies roll into the Dunkin doughnut center where Gomes will have his hands full on the glass with the size of the UConn front court. McGrath has been on fire from behind the arch of late and he really has been the key in the friars wins and loses. When he is shooting lights out, the paint opens up more for players like Gomes and Kotti. The friars will have every intention of working the ball low to Gomes, which when matched up against Boone favors UConn. Providence won the last game these two played last year. Gay & Marcus Williams have picked up some of the scoring slack with Anderson sidelined. Can't see the huskies having too much of a let down going to a conference opponents house. UConn needs to protect the ball and should limit turnovers on offense. The Huskies are too big for providence on defense (16 blocks against UNC, should have more against the less talented friars front court). Villanueva, Boone and now Armstrong will need to set the defensive presence early tonight! UConn's Williams cannot be off the court for long periods of time, with Kellogg's ball handling and decision making problems. Denham Brown will be called upon because he is a solid defender and should be in McGraths face all night. Providence is a good team at the DD center but they have lost 7 games at home by an average of 6 points and even though the friars should keep this game close, in the end UConn is my play.
