TRC=team's record as starter
WHIP=(walks + hits) / innings pitched

Opponent's batting averages (L and R OBA) are listed only if OVER .280 or UNDER .220. (also listed in cases of significance)
Opponent's slugging averages (SLG) are listed only if OVER .500 or UNDER .400.

...naturally, all total #'s for NL starters are in games where the DH was not used; may be particularly important in this one as TBay plays in a rather small park; still, Telemaco is no fluke (as a B pitcher) as he threw some very impressive games when with the Cubs; Kennedy may give problems to a Philly team seeing him for the first time, but a long outing is doubtful and the Devil Rays bullpen sucks

Wood vs. Schilling
------------------------------
I'm trying to find somebody who gets WGN and can tape this one for me, which could be a classic pitching match-up (which I love).
Better yet, if anyone has a copy of Wood's 20-K performance in 1998 I would pay handsomely for a copy.

If there is going to be an under 7 to play in the NL this season, I believe that this is it.
D'Backs are without closer Mantei but still have a quality bullpen. Besides, Schilling should be good for 7+.
Cubs have a very strong bullpen, Wood will put in at least 7, and Wood appears to be getting more dominant as the season progresses.

If anybody has any arguments against the under then I would love to hear them. This comment is not meant to be a challenge, but a request for input before I pummel this total.

I thought of one argument myself:
Wood has been much better at home, so far in 2001.

Still, he has only made one recent start on the road, since he has become consistently dominating.
That start was June 1st @Milwaukee. The Brewers new park has been an ideal one for the long ball, and the only runs that Wood gave up were on a 2-run homer by switch-hitter Raul Casanova (who was undoubtadly batting left).

Another argument could be the the strong, left-handed lineup that the D'Backs can field, but Wood has been overpowering lefties virtually the same as righties.
Save for Mark Grace, the D'Backs lefties have been very susceptible to the strikeout, which is a major weapon for Wood.

As for the Cubs scoring; they have not been blowing away too many clubs, but seem to win a lot of 1-run and low scoring games. Schilling has been punishing right-handed bats this season, and the Cubs feature many of those (save for Matt Stairs and the slumping Todd Hundley, the Cubs feature no serious left-handed threats).

No matter what, I see this game as being an early-season classic.
God Bless Baseball Season!
