Lewis starts: Colby Lewis, the top pitching prospect in the Rangers organization, makes his first Major League start on Wednesday against the Mariners.

Lewis, 22, is 1-2 with a 7.81 ERA in 11 relief appearances in two stints with Texas this season.

"These four starts mean a lot, but they won't determine his spot in the future," Narron said. "He still has to pitch well this spring."

Lewis went 5-6 with a 3.60 ERA in 20 starts with Oklahoma in regular season, going 3-0 with a 2.64 ERA in his last four starts.

from Sullivan on FW newspaper:

Lewis gets chance

Colby Lewis starts tonight, the first of four starts he's expected to get before the season is over.

Lewis is hoping to make enough of an impression to give him an edge toward making the rotation next year. But Jerry Narron said these four starts are just to get him experience. He said winter ball in the Dominican Republic and spring training could do more to determine whether Lewis is ready for the rotation.

"The biggest part is getting experience," Narron said. "Especially against [AL West] clubs. They're not going to let up at all. He's going to have to pitch real well to get these guys out."
