I work for a company called Lucent Technologies. Well i just found out today i'm gonna get laid off. Well since I am working nights im not suppose to find out till 6:00am tomarrow after the work shift. Well I call my boss and he says 'yea looks like you have to bring in your tools and computer and work van' Ok no problem, but he is like i need you to get that job finished. i mean what the hell, i just got laid off and you want me to finish some job so you look good. and than he wants me to go wash my work van and clean all of the inside. Fawk that, im taking my tools and probably take a wizz in the van and than give it back. Unreal. It sucks getting laid off, and thats what our company has been doing for 3 years. Our great stock which a couple of years ago was at $70 now its $2.50. But you know what im happy to get the hell out. I told my wife I would become a professional gambler, but that didn't fly. ;)

JUst some advice, feel free to do with it aas you wish. But I would recommend finsihing the jon and leaving on the best not possible, they will be apart of your employment history and you never know if you will be the one toget called back. Many people in this situation leave on the terms you mentioned, and find out how much it negatively affects them in the long run.

Is sucks getting laid off, it hurts, it's emotional no matter what anyone says, it is uncertaininty...but with all of hte negatives..you can still make leaving and your last impression a positive one. It will pay dividends in the end.

Yea im just gonna do my job like i would normally any other day. I'd rather do that, than be a prick and do something stupid, and if they wanted to hire back, they would remember what I did. Things happen for a reason so we'll see. Thanks for the support guys.

sorry to hear that Kdogg. :(

Its hard when the layoff hits u. Everyone reads the stories and knows someone else who got laid off. Take stock of savings and expenses. Do not bet a lot on fav's and do drop by the puck forum often

Best thing is to clear your head for a few days. Dont do anything due to which they may not give a good reference. Unfortunately companies (even ones losing money) still rule over their employee's.

Everything happens for the good and maybe (hopefully - Spock will pray for ya) something better will turn up.

Regarding Lucent stock it is way overvalued even now.

Good luck pal.

Go ahead cock a leg and hit that make believe fireplug in the back of that van.

Same rotten deal for my nephew & a co-worker's husband here in Columbus area. This company has dumped more workers than Carter has liver pills.

Where did they send the local production? Who came in and bought the local shop?

Corporate American is selling the majority of its workers down the tubes and we stand by and do the right thing?

We got less guts than the coal miners of the 20's & 30's and the Steel workers of the 1880's.

What is your chance of ever being called back? I give better odds to a snowball in a microwave sitting in the July sun in Georgia.

Sour grapes? ... nope not I,... I am still working and not for, nor never for Luccent. Didn't lose any $$$ on their stock but I have a former co-worker who did and big. Thats the risk one takes in any investment. But when it comes to the laborer's lively hood well that is a different story.

Do as you please but trust me sometimes the satisfaction of the final word is well worth the cost associated with it. I know of one car dealer that had it's shop drain turned into a urinal one night and the personal gratification is one that will never be forgotten. Some bridges are best burnt but make sure that is your final resolve before you act.

Amen Geno. Being out of work sucks though I am not in the same boat as KDogg being involved in a labor dispute. Perhaps we need more guts or fanaticism today like the Teamsters to offset Corporate Facism. There are exceptions of course, companies who treat their employees very well (Amgen local example) but not enough it seems. That being said, you should probably just finish the shift as normal. Good luck.
