(TICKER) ?UCLA senior quarterback Ben Olson will be out at least eight weeks after X-rays revealed a broken toe in his right foot, according to a report in Sunday?s Los Angeles Times.

Olson, 25, suffered the injury in practice Saturday. It is the same injury he suffered in spring practice. The newspaper reported that a decision of whether he will undergo surgery will be made in the next few days.

Community college transfer Kevin Craft and redshirt freshman Chris Forcier are the leading candidates to take Olson?s spot as the Bruins? No. 1 quarterback.

?With the prospect of Ben not being available, you see heightened intensity at the quarterback position, ? first-year head coach Rick Neuheisel said. ?Everybody is understanding that, ?Holy cow, this could really happen. I could be in there.? When that happens it?s amazing how the light turns on and people really start focusing.?

The Bruins? starter each of the last two seasons, Olson has gone 7-3 in his 10 career starts. The 6-4, 230-pound Olson threw for 1,040 yards and seven touchdowns with six interceptions in an injury-plagued season. He missed four regular-season games and did not play against Brigham Young in the Las Vegas Bowl due to a knee injury.

UCLA hosts Tennessee in its season opener on September 1.
