In the first half, Connecticut dominated the offensive glass, grabbing 11 offensive rebounds on 22 opportunities (50.0 pct). :scared

In the second half, Connecticut grabbed six offensive boards on 16 opportunities (37.5 pct), converting second chances, and scoring nine points off those six boards.

Jeremy Lamb did an outstanding defensive job guarding Butler's leading scorer, Shelvin Mack. Lamb held Mack to one point on nine plays when he guarded him. Mack entered the game averaging 21.8 points per game in the tournament.

Connecticut played outstanding half-court defense Monday, holding Butler to 20.3 percent shooting. Jim Calhoun's team has played excellent man-to-man defense all tournament long, holding five of its six opponents to 36 percent or less when it played man-to-man defense.

Butler struggled to score against Connecticut's length inside all game. The Bulldogs missed their first 21 field goals in the paint, not scoring until Andrew Smith's put back with 6:13 remaining in the game. Connecticut finished with 10 blocks, tying a title-game record, with eight of those 10 coming on shots in the paint.:scared

Since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985, Kemba Walker's 23.5 PPG is the 6th highest scoring performance by a player whose team won the national title:

Butler made just 12 FG against UConn, the 2nd-fewest FG made in a National Championship game.

Kemba Walker scored 141 points in the 2011 Men's Basketball Championship, the 2nd most in history by a Big East player.

The Butler Bulldogs had one of the worst shooting performances in the history of the Men's Basketball Championship, but in terms of the National Title Game, it would be hard to argue that it wasn't THE worst:

From Elias: Butler shot 3-31 from 2-point range in this game, just 9.7 pct and the fewest 2-point FG made in championship game history::scared

Butler becomes the 4th team to lose consecutive title games.

Alex Oriakhi and Roscoe Smith had 4 blocks each, tying Greg Oden (2007) and Loren Woods (2001) for the 2nd-most in a National Championship game. Only Joakim Noah, with 6 blocks in 2006, had more.

The 33 3-point FG attempted by Butler is the 2nd-most in a National Championship game. Illinois attempted 40 in 2005 vs UNC.

Butler shot only 18.8 percent from the field, the lowest shooting percentage by any team in a National Championship game in Men's basketball Championship history.

The Bulldogs scored only 41 points, the fewest in any National Championship game since Oklahoma State scored 36 in 1949.

...............................................................

Got to admit that I rode Butlers tails through the tournament.

The trick is when to know to get off the horse and just walk to Victory Lane with the ticket cashed.
