NC State Rises to 12th in Coaches Poll; No. 13 in A.P.
Wolfpack moves up six spots following impressive win over George Washington.

Jan. 2, 2006

NC State's impressive 79-58 victory over previously 12th ranked George Washington on Friday night certainly opened some eyes around the country. This week's new ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll finds the Wolfpack ranked 12th, its highest ranking since last December when it was briefly ranked as high as 9th in the coaches poll. NC State also comes in at No. 13 in the A.P. poll. Following a perfect December, the Pack is now 11-1, its best start since the 1989 team posted a 12-1 mark to open the season.

The No. 13 ranking in the A.P. poll ties the highest under coach Herb Sendek. After defeating top ranked Duke in February of 2004, the Wolfpack also moved to as high as 13th in the A.P. top 25.

NC State will be shooting for its seventh straight win on Tuesday night when it hosts UNC Greensboro. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m. Wolfpack Radio Network airtime is 6:30

Classic Look-Ahead spot for the Pack....don't think they cover the 23, but I like the Under more....line is right on, but if the Pack get a DD lead, they will probably try to coast and put some younger players in to get game time...Pack is proud of it's D and hopefully will limit UNC-G to no more than 55 tonight....now if the Pack can stay under 75, then it stays under the total...if they play loose, then the Under is shot...will give it a go :s4:

Next Game: Saturday Afternoon at the Dean Dome :scared
Following Game: Next Tuesday in BC :scared

2 tough games coming up, what will the Pack be thinking about tonight?

YTD: 11-11

won last 3

Playing: Under 141

glta and Go Pack! :)

UNC Greensboro Begins a Week of UNCs for Wolfpack
NC State, UNC Greensboro collide Tuesday night

Jan. 3, 2006

By Tony Haynes

Raleigh, N.C. - After blowing through December with a perfect 6-0 record, NC State, ranked 12th in the coaches poll and No. 13 in the A.P. Top 25, will begin January with a non-conference game at home against UNC Greensboro (7-6) on Tuesday night at the RBC Center (7:00 p.m.). A month that included an ACC win over Miami; a non-conference road triumph over Alabama; and an impressive 21-point romp over nationally ranked George Washington gave the Pack its first unbeaten December since the 1997-98 campaign. More importantly, however, NC State is now 11-1 for the season as it turns the corner into what will be a grueling month of January.

The UNC Greensboro contest will be a prelude to what will no doubt be a much-anticipated tilt against No. 25 North Carolina Saturday in Chapel Hill. But during his weekly radio show on Monday night, Wolfpack coach Herb Sendek bristled at those who had already begun to look ahead to that game.

"My entire focus right now has to be on UNC Greensboro," Sendek said. "They're a good basketball team."

If anything, the Spartans won't be overwhelmed by anything they see on Tuesday, not after already playing the likes of Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Duke. In fact, UNC Greensboro will be making its second straight appearance on the ACC's `tobacco road' after absorbing a 102-69 beating at top ranked Duke over the weekend.

In that game, the Spartans did get 23 points from leading scorer Ricky Hickman, a 6-3 junior who averages 19 points per game and shoots 38 percent from 3-point range. UNC Greensboro is also getting production from 6-6 forward Kyle Hines (16.6 ppg., 9.2 rebounds) and 6-4 guard Kevin Oleksiak (14.4 ppg.).

Four Wolfpack players are averaging double figures led by Ilian Evtimov's 12.6 points per game. Of late, NC State has been getting great play from guard Engin Atsur and forward Andrew Brackman. During that six-game run in December, Atsur had 36 assists and only seven turnovers, while shooting 53 percent (16-30) from the 3-point arc.

Over his last four games, the 6-10 Brackman has hit 16-of-23 shots from the field (70 percent), and has contributed nearly six rebounds per contest.

Following Tuesday's match-up, four of the Pack's next five games will be against nationally ranked teams from the ACC, and three of those will be on the road (at UNC, at Boston College and at Duke).
