Kansas City area for who knows how long....
from ap game wrapup of NY Islanders at Montreal game thurs nite:

"A significant portion of the sold-out Bell Centre crowd of 21,273 booed throughout the singing of the Star Spangled Banner prior to the game..."

from faceoff.com:

"Before the game, the Canadiens asked fans to "show your support and respect for two great nations" before the singing of the national anthems. The American anthem was resoundingly booed, more so than it was prior to the club's 1-0 loss to New Jersey on Tuesday.

More than 200,000 people turned out for an anti-war demonstration in Montreal on Saturday."

I did have a losing bet on the under, but now glad Islanders pounded the Habs 6-2.

we care.....we do not boo the Canadien flag.....ESPECIALLY when you are at war....

its one thing to do it in jest, but a whole other to spit in the face of Americans when we are at war....that is bullsht and is inexcusable....

and i do not think that they were doing it in jest tonight....

we can take all the jokes anytime and likewise we like to give them about hockey, temperature, etc.....but when we are in a serious situation when lives are in danger we expect utmost support and respect from our friends.....we would do the same.....

in fact, if Canada thought that a country was a danger to their interests, you can bet that the US would be leading the charge.....what do we get from Quebec people? shit on.

canada doesn't have to worry about being attacked....there's really nothing here....and we don't provoke anyone....AND....IF we were to be attacked....it would be for the simple reason that we are your allies....nothing more....nothing less!!!

dude that whole premise of "initiating" a war is bullshit.....Saddam had 12 years to comply....he DIDN"T.....no one acted.....Israel would be blown off the map if the man would continue.....already it is PROVEN that he didn't comply much to the chagrin of the naysayers with the launch of SCUD missiles....

the man supports terror, and we will most likely find dealings with Al Quaeda wihen this is all said and done, if we haven't already (we cant just give away our spies to the death chamber if we do have this proof)....even if we don't, he is a threat to us because there is nothing restraining dealings with them and he would LOVE to see us die and would not hesitate to supply a terror organization to obliterate a US city or Israel.....

don't you people realize this?????

we have no choice but to get rid of him!!!!!!

Canadien people died in the WTC center too and deal with the US in business all the time.....so just a little bit of support would be nice....

as i said, there is a time to boo a flag in jest -- but NOT in a time of war and NOT you can NOT tell me that this was pure jest.....it was a JEER of the US flag and what we are and what we stand for.....and it is inexcusable behavior

and all this trash about this being for oil and whatever is ridiculous too.....we will NOT go in there and take all the oil.....we did NOT do that the first time did we?????? check to see WHO GETS OIL FROM IRAQ!!!!!! yeah we get some but in no way will this benefit ONLY THE US in a substantial amount.....you just wait the Iraqi people will get the oil and we will make sure to that and you can also bet that other countries will make sure to that....

we actually DO have a little bit of benevolence in us and want to free the people, protect Israel, protect ourselves and foreigners (i.e. Canadiens) who just might visit the WTC or some other target of terror.....and believe that this is the best way of doing so...

and instead of bitching about what we are doing, we would rather take a little appreciation because we think we are trying to do what is in our best interest and the WORLD's best interest INCLUDING Canada in making the world a safer place....

and American soldiers are giving their lives to do so.....and it hurts them to be spat on

Canada
well I can say one thing...........I'm ashamed Canada does not support the US........the two of us have the largest unprotected border in the world and out two countries do more trade then any other two countries in the word............

bottom line we should be right there with the Americans :)

and FWIW..........a vast majority of the Canadian people (75% according to latest poll) feel we should be "with" the US. So trust me it's not us Canadian citizens, it's our politicians

if it were up to "the common folk" we'd be with ya.....that I can tell ya for sure :)

and by the way............if any country attacked Canada that would probably start WWIII (and I'm not kidding) I mean come on.....can ya honestly see any country attacking us  ......there would be a massive outcry throughout the world...........we unlike the us don't arm our "friends" and then 20 years later..........fight em

but bottom line............we should be there with the US.....:(

kickserv,

nice post...i actually watched on TV the other day when Canada was holding somthing similar to the House of Commons ( please forgive me because I am not familiar with your govt) but a man stood up and was insulted that no one has invited the Canadiens to participate in the war and balmed the lack of investment in the military ......

I thought it was nicely done and thought your post was as well...

i'm not excusing the montrealers who did that....all i'm saying is that they had the right to do so....whether it's right or wrong isn't the point at all....

ok....playing devil's advocate here....but....stop for a sec and pretend you were saddam....you have ultimate power of your own country doing as you please....would you really change your ways and turn over a new leaf just because some foreigners tell you to....i sure as hell wouldn't....

next point....WHEN saddam IS taken out and replaced....at what cost....how many lives are to be sacrificed....would it be worth it....to save lives of american/canadian/the free world....who says that we count more than they do....that OUR lives are worth more than the 1, 2, 100s maybe even thousands of innocent civilians that will no doubt be wiped out by this war....AND....once he is gone....who replaces him....someone that WE decide would be better suited to lead that country....AND....what guarantees do we have that he/she won't turn out worse than hussein....noriega comes to mind....

and i never said that this war is for oil....in my opinion....and from the resources that i've been privy to....i'd say that it's to take the focus off what's happening right here....AND....to raise bush's popularity....among other things....imagine the billions of dollars spent on this war spent instead on feeding/housing the homeless....gov't funded health care....stuff like that....

final point (only because i'm really sleepy now....*L*)....first saddam....then n. korea....then the chinese....then whoever else....we wipe them all out and get rid of all weapons of mass destruction....then what....what do we do with the weapons that WE still have....get rid of them too....OR....because there will always be conflict in the world....continually invade these places and set things right and impose OUR ways/freedom upon these people???

who is to say that we're right and they're not???

whatever became of those russian commies anyways....weren't they supposed to be some huge global threat a few years back as well???

AND....i find i highly unlikely that many of your/our troops will actually be hurt by saddam's men....more likely by friendly fire or faulty machinery and things of that nature....not even close to the deaths we shall inflict upon them....after all....it would be crazy to enter a war that we couldn't win, wouldn't it???

just some food for thought....

:)
