Question, does anyone thing that this team has a shot at gold?

To use the name "dream team" is a joke, there was only one of those, and it was the team of Bird, MJ, Pip, Magic, Karl, Charles, Mullin, Stockton, Latner, The Admiral, Ewing, Drexler and coached by Chuck Daly. Now US ball is losing to teams like Italy and winning by a buzzer beating 3 against Germany? Not to mention last Olympic showing of like 6th place. All I'm hearing is excuses about how T-Mac, Shaq and Kobe aren't there, so this isn't the best team the US can form. Oh yeah and how different styles are hard to gel together. If pros are to concerned with $$ to play, and the ones that show are not willing to adapt to win, maybe it's time to put the game back in the hands of college players?

These are NBA players.

There is no way they should lose these games.

Another example of monied athletes not playing
together and getting schooled.

On the course!
You guys are missing the big pictures, here.

People in North America want to hold on to this belief that we have the best players in basketball. The belief that the "black af-a-lete" is the best on the planet. Well, like in every other aspect of life, the people who work hard, excell.

Our lazy, self-absorbed players, are being passed by at an alarming rate by European players. I mentioned this last basketball season in a thread here, that in 20 years, over 50% of the NBA will be Europeans. Why? Because like Avis.....They try harder.

These kids have no fuking clue what the Olympics mean. Every other country wants to smoke the USA. Every other country puts up their best effort against the USA. These kids are playing for the US team like it's just a pick up game with no meaning. They don't get the history. (I'm pretty sure most of them have no idea about the history of the Olympics, either.) Many people will say, "These games were a wake up call, and our boys will play better in the "real deal". I'm not so sure.

I would agree that we would have a better shot with college kids over there. At least they still need to play well for scouts!

When one team is studying your team's weaknesses, and your team is playing PS2 and rolling fatties, guess what?

The United States, as a whole, has rested on its laurels since the end of WWII. We are a lazy lot, and the rest of the world sees it. (Has seen it for 40+ years)

I'd say a lot more, but "Pimp My Ride" is on.

I have to agree with the above. I pull for all (most)of the U S teams and entrants except this bunch of lazy moneybags. The Europeans deserve the wins much more. I actually hope they come home to their mansions with no medal at all to hang on their mantles.

DO NOT click on that link above in Dr. Strange's post. As soon as I did my virus software went off..."Ultor's Trojan Horse" being sent from that site. If you go there, you better have virus software running.

That link should be taken down.

Norton Internet Security.

It may have been a coincidence that it came in the moment the page loaded. Who knows. I haven't had that alert before.

If the US has rested on its laurels then why is there only one global superpower left in the world?

Leave it to yyz to somehow equate a couple of basketball losses to all that is wrong with the USA.

If you want lazy, look in the mirror, Sleepy, but don't bring the rest of us down into your toilet bowl of a life.

That's a prime example. You think just because the Soviet Union went away, someone wasn't eyeing up that spot?

China isn't just something you bus off of the tables at the Country Club on Staurday night.

silly me- the Soviet Union just went away all on its own while we sat on our laurels during the Cold War

Most of what you say here is true. The "black af-a-lete" is definitely the best "af-a-lete". That is hard to deny.

What you are correct about and what the problem is with these "af-a-letes" is that they are taught to win using only their "af-a-letic" ability. The fundamentals of the game have gone out the door along time ago. Everyone carries the ball, walks, etc. By the way, can anybody remember when the carry rule was removed from the game? It must have been. The dunk is the most important shot in basketball. Just ask Shaq the "af-a-lete".

This type of basketball is glorified here. You see it on Street Ball on ESPN. What is this b.s. anyway? Basketball without rules is what it is. No defense. No teamwork. No basketball skills. No coaching.

I don't know why anybody would expect any different. These guys in Europe are taught basketball not "af-a-lete" ball. An average team with good coaching and good basketball skills will beat a team of "af-a-letes" every day of the week.

The days of Stockton, Bird, Magic, Malone, and Jordan are over. The days of the dunking, three-point-shooting "af-a-lete" are here.

This is the exact reason that I cringe everytime someone brings up that Shaq is the best player ever. Give me a fukin break.

You "af-a-letes" better get back to basketball basics. :nutkick :thefinger

they absolutely suck, 3/24 on 3 point attempts. What a joke. Yyz and homedog are on the money, there is no more magic Jordan or Bird s that work on their games all day every day. These lazy dope smoking clowns are a absolute embarrassment. Playing play station & getting tattoos all day. That USA 12 has more money than every athlete from every country combined at the Olympics & they are a embarrassing joke. That's exactly why NBA is going in the toilet, not even worth watching, certainly not worth ridiculous ticket prices. Pay huge dollars to get the privilege of seeing guys like Vinnie Baker try to play basketball shitt faced, you can do that for free in any neighborhood park.

This is what the NBA is: Ghetto "af-a-lete" street ball.

Haven't posted in a while but will start with Football around the corner.

However Irish said and I quote" Not to mention last Olympic showing of like 6th place"

If I recall they have only lost 3 games in Olympic history, and the loss today is only the first since the NBA players have started playing.

I think he is talking about the World Championships. I'm not trying to start anything, I just think facts are facts. I don't think they'll win the gold, but it's not right to root against your country in competition.

Just my 2 cents........

jaws, who said anything about routing against the USA? I spent my Sunday afternoon watching these clowns be out of shape, not prepared & completely embarrassed the country. Don't blame us for calling a spade a spade. What was wrong was their effort, it was pathetic. Getting destroyed by a little island like Puerto Rico, congratulations Puerto Rico they hustled and deserved the win.
