Cowherd touch on this game today on his show...He was talking about the line reflects a blowout but how some people see somewhat of close game...He was saying that when Vegas usually calls for a blowout game thats what tends to happen because the line makers know more then Joe public...And Cowherd said for that fact people should stay away from this line...I been thinking about this game this week and right away I was thinking UCLA cause of their passing game and USC's questionable secondary...And as Cowherd was talking the whole time I was thinking well about Frenso...the line on that game was in the 20s...Frenso and ND both have high powered passing game that has shown to give USC troubles...How is UCLA any different then Frenso and ND when comes to throwing the ball...For Christ sake Olson is 30 and 3...but however Cowherd did kind of make some sense behind his reasoning about the line on this game...Not sure what play to make at this point...Anyone have any comments or input for this game?

I can tell you that USC was an emotionally and physically drained team. They desperately needed these 2 weeks off. Carroll gave the team 4 days off and USC is still banged up on defense. Even the players on D who are playing against UCLA are not healthy. Won't know for sure who will play or not play until later in week.

One matchup that I am looking forward too is USC OL Deuce Lutie* vs UCLA DL Moline. Deuce outweighs his man by over 100 pounds and Deuce is mobile for being over 365 pounds!

A RB like Lendale White really will hurt the UCLA D. So it be smart to wait and see his status. He is playing on Sat. but make sure he will be close to 100%. He will punish the UCLA D and wear them down if the USC coaching staff gives him the chance. USC rarily has given White the ball repeatedly which pisses me off. :mj07: White doesn't get enough carries "early" in the game. I don't get it.

Still not sure either

Still not sure either

Yeah I think USC actually might come out and be ready to go for this one. NC title game on the line for USC so they are going to want to make an impression. The time off has UCS rested and I might just go with the numbers and lay the big chalk. Another thing UCLA hasn't played since 11/12 ASU, thats a long time to go without live action. There could be a little rust to that offense. The numbers break down like this UCLA on the road scores 33 ppg and defense allows 35.2 ppg while USC 53.6 ppg at home and defense 22.8 ppg. UCLA gave them a game last year USC 29 UCLA 24, I just don't think its going to happen this year. I'm thinking USC will start out fast in this and I can see 2 TD+ lead by halftime.

did you watch fresno st. a very good team but no way in ucla's class nearly beat them last week. everyone talks about reggie bush's great game but that game turned on fresno's qb. 4 int's in the 2nd half. quotes from local paper: "This is the big one,'' senior linebacker Spencer Havner said. "It's the end of the season, end of my career and we're playing for a Pac-10 title. I think we're all looking at this game like that. It's the biggest rivalry game of our careers."
Senior quarterback Drew Olson is having a season comparable to USC Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart. But he has no interest in winning any personal battles.
"The bowl game doesn't matter to me. To beat SC is the ultimate goal,'' he said. "More than anything, beating SC would take this program to another level.''

Interesting the different styles and philosophies at both programs. To USC, this is just another game and nobody is saying or doing anything differently. USC players are taught to practice and prepare the same for each and every opponent. (why you don't see USC ever come out flat) USC also has a lot of out of state players who don't even know about the rivalry so that helps Carroll a lot in not getting his team too excited. Even BCS NC games doesn't do anything different. Nothing ever changes. Let the game naturally get you pumped up on gameday but don't get over hyped for it. UCLA players clearly are getting over excited for this game. Carroll strongly believes that is a bad thing.

BTW, Lendale White practices yesterday with team but was held out of contact drills. Leinart and offense looked sharp. USC will continue to be depletetd at the LB position for this game. UCLA be very wise to use TE Lewis in this game attacking USC LB's. I have seen too many UCLA games where they don't even throw the ball to Lewis direction. So hopefully UCLA forgets they have an awesome TE. :)

Just read this quote.

USC fullback Brandon Hancock explained it to a group of students Tuesday night while discussing this week's crosstown rivalry with the Bruins.

"We respect Notre Dame and at the end of the day it's a pretty healthy rivalry. But all bets are off with these pansies," Hancock said. "We don't want to just beat them. We want to hurt them. We're not going to call the dogs off in the third or fourth quarter. We want to send a message."

*Remember, this was at a student function that was not open to the media late on Tuesday night and writer snagged the quote from Hancock in a semi-private setting.

hancock should just shut his mouth.
seriously.
that juice-head is one of the most overhyped players to come through a major college program in a long time.

I'm with gman on this one. Let me hear one of those quotes from someone that will make a real difference on the scoreboard -- but I'd hope that the real studs at USC are too smart for that.

So. Cal
My Take on this is that SC hasnt covered their lines many times this year. ND, ASU, WASH, Stan, barely covered CAL. I dont see UCLA beating SC but i don't see SC covering such a high powered offense with such a banged up defense.

USC is not immortal. Everyone of thier players but Leinhart is banged up (and thats because he is out dating Linsday Lohan instead of at practice). They have had so many close games that I see this one being close to.

A lot easier to have "even-keel" for every game when you are better than everyone you play. This game means way more to UCLA than a bowl game b/c they would be destroying their rival's season.
Its a playoff game, except that if UCLA wins, they don't advance.
USC doesn't care as much about this game in terms of rivalry b/c they have a nat'l champ game awaiting them.
If USC was 8-2, this would be just as huge a game for them. They've just hit a really good time with good coach and great players.
I don't think it was like this with Ted Tollner or Robinson's 2nd go-round.
