Everyone seems to be forgetting that Alabama's season ended in the SEC championship game and they were playing without 2/5 of their O-Line.

Utes are a great story, but get pounded by FLA, OK, USC, TX, the list goes on...

SC/FLA would be a pretty amazing game...

...Pete and Urban should just schedule a home and home and who needs a playoff

btw did anyone notice the 2 teams that played 3 top 10 teams from the final AP poll? SC and Ohio St. SC pounded Penn St, Ohio St, and Oregon....

I'm sure most here would agree, it would be great to see USC and Florida play.

With so much money tied up in the bowls and
corporate sponsorship, I don't see it happening
yet. :SIB

What's the excuse for Alabama's Defence getting eviscerated by Utah? That was a whipping and the tackle would not have changed the outcome. Every bowl team ends up losing a couple of guys to suspensions etc. As for the great Pac 10, the mountain west beat them like a red headed step child this year.

No excuses for Bama. If they played again today, I'd bet on Utah, straight up.

As far as USC/Florida goes, USC's defense is great in the same sense that the BG XII offenses are great. Put them up against even minimal competition and they come back down to earth. I'd take Florida, simply because I think Sanchez isnt ready to face a good, aggressive defense, and I think that the USC defense will have problems against teams with 2+ wins.

I would imagine that Florida also doesn't have some white guy safety (penn st) who would get suckered 5-6 times on play action and allow those ridiculously easy TDs USC got in the first half of the Rose Bowl.

What the heck those that mean.
What are you like 100 years old or something.
It's freaking 2009 bro. Grow up.

BTW the better team won the Rose Bowl.
Not by any means did the safety screw up and cost Penn St the game single handed . USC was Better in every aspect of the RB game.

On to USC Vs Florida

IMO Team with the ball last would win.

Until they adapt a 16 team play-off, national championships are meaningless, unless you are #7 seeded Richmond in the FBS of course...

did you even watch sc play at all?
have you ever seen sc play in bcs or non-conf games vs top teams?

it's their life mission to dominate in those games and over the last 5 years they've lost ONE game, to texas in the bcs title game. this fla team isnt that texas team.

it would be a great game for sure, but i'd take sc defense as the best unit on the field with sc offense ALWAYS showing and doing more in jan than they do all season long....sc wins 30-17

Yes, but not much.
Yes, as much as I can, but, really, is beating a motley crew of Big 10 teams what you want to hang your hat on?
Yes, they have lost ONE game, as you so subtley put it. They have also played in exactly ONE bowl other than the Rose Bowl during that period, beaten exactly ONE team not from the BIG 10, and beaten exactly ONE of their opponents by more than 2 TDs (which shows they need to reevaluate either their life mission or how they define dominate). Lastly, UF this year certainly isn't that Texas team - they have (at least) 2 great offensive players - it only took one to beat Southern Cal.
I really don't know how good the Southern Cal defense is. They simply didn't play enough decent teams to tell. Their reputation as a great defense started when all the talking heads started yipping about the great Southern Cal defense after they recorded consecutive shut-outs of Ariz St and Wash St and it got worse and worse from then on. That stellar string of opponents was Ariz St, Wash St, Ariz, Wash, Cal, Stanford, ND and UCLA - a combined 35-60 over the regular season, with one opponent winless and only 2 with winning records. Again, is this REALLY what you want to hang your hat on?
(You aren't Scott4USC, by chance, are you?)

Care to share FLORIDA's Bowl history since 2002??

5 of the 7 games were against BIG 10 teams...they barely beat Iowa in 05, lost to them in 03, and lost to Michigan in 2002 + 2007.

I'm actually negative towards the BIG 10 as I think it's overrated year in and year out. However, I couldn't allow someone just throw garbage out there like that when the BIG 10 has "dominated" Florida, outside of OSU.

Sooooooooo, would you like to think before yah talk?? :)

I would indeed like to think before I talk, however, that really should go both ways. I said absolutely nothing about Florida vs the BIG 10. In fact, if you could point out where I said anything about UF historically at all, I will be glad to edit it for accuracy.

My point, to make it easier to understand, was that I did not think that Southern Cal's success over the last 5 years in BCS or non-conference games vs top teams (as trumpeted by gjn23) was really that impressive.

p.s. In the spirit of generocity, though, I will concede that Southern Cal was probably better than every other team in the PAC-10 and the BIG 10 in every one of those years.

p.p.s. If you'd like to start another thread trashing UF's rather checkered football history, then as a long time Gator-hater (since Spurrier arrived - no need to bother hating them before that), I'd be glad to chip in - I'm sure I can contribute a few Pell/Hall jokes you haven't heard.
