When Utah State coach Brent Guy announced that Sean Setzer would be his starting quarterback for last Saturday's season-opener at UNLV, he was quick to stress that his announcement was only good for that one game.
So who makes the start this week against nationally ranked Oregon?
That's an answer that will likely come later on, although program insiders say they think Setzer will be the man once again.
In the 27-17 loss to the Rebels, Setzer and sophomore Diondre Borel both had their ups and downs. Setzer played a great first quarter, but the offense bogged down afterwards and he threw a costly interception at the end of the half, a turnover that UNLV converted into points.
Borel came on in the second half, and looked great with his ability to run with the football, but he was often too impatient in the pocket and didn't take the time to go through his progressions on pass plays.
Guy has said that both will play for the second consecutive week. Whether or not it matters against an explosive Ducks team is another question for another day.
"We'll play both of those guys in the Oregon game," Guy said in his weekly news conference. "I don't know exactly who will start. We'll wait and see how we do in practice this week and announce somebody before the end of the week."

Double duty

Pete Caldwell, the place-kicker from Davis High, was one of the bright spots for the Aggies against UNLV. Handling both kicking and punting duties, Caldwell was money on his only field goal attempt. He also was great as a punter, although the coaching staff would like to see much less punting and much more place-kicking. He's shown a strong enough leg that he's considered a weapon if USU can consistently move the ball into field-goal range. He's shown the talent, as a punter, to constantly reverse field position.
"Pete was certainly fantastic kicking and punting the football," Guy said. "We were really pleased with that one aspect of the game."
