So you're thinking of joining the Vanderbilt football staff. You have a great resume, experience and talent. But getting a job on James Franklin's staff isn't about any of those things, it's about how attractive your wife is.

Franklin unabashedly said so during a radio interview Wednesday where he claimed that one of the first things he does when looking at perspective hires is size up their wives. :0corn

Franklin isn't the first coach to lay out criteria for his coaching staff. In January, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said he didn't want fat, sloppy, smoking bachelors gracing his coaches room. :sadwave:

Did you guys look at the wives of the current coaches? Other than his wife, they don't necessarily look "hire-worthy." Not anything scary, but maybe these guys got grandfathered in?

I'm sure Franklin is really sorry for the comment but he must have a degree in stupidity. I got a feeling this won't be the last we here from this guy. I'm sure all of his coaches are thinking " I thought I got hired for my qualifications "

My thoughts

his thinking is the guy must be a good salesman if he has a good looking wife... he most probably is a good recruiter too for the program, I love it...I might take Vandy a few times this year when they are 30 point dogs

Either that or he thinks he'll be banging a few of them on the side.

I've never heard of a football coach doing it but I know sales managers for companys that use this same line of thinking.

People can say what they want and bash him but it's true. You don't get a hot wife without being a good salesman and having confidence and that's what recruiting is all about.
