BC is getting 3.5 points even though they have the top rated QB in the country as rated by Mel Kiper and are number 2 in the country. Why would Vegas throw us the hook? Here is why:

Va Tech results

Thursday Night Games - 14-3 (.824)
Home Games - 67-19 (.779)
Thursday Night Home Games - 8-1 (.888)
VS. Boston College - 9-4 (.692)
ESPN Televised Records - 36-15 (.706)
and Finally Record in October - 37-13 (.740)

I am on Va Tech, but will watch the line movement and not bet the game until right before kickoff. I don't think the spread will factor, but I like to track the line.

In my opinion, Vegas will not move the line from 3.5 to 2.5 because that opens up a huge middle opportunity and books would get smoked if Va Tech wins by 3.

Victory Lane
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - With Tyrod Taylor nursing a right ankle sprain and questionable for Thursday night's game against No. 2 Boston College, the No. 8 Hokies and Eagles are both preparing for two quarterbacks whose styles don't compare.

Taylor, a freshman, has started in five consecutive victories for the Hokies (6-1, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) since being elevated to No. 1 after a 48-7 loss at LSU. The theory then was that Taylor's mobility would help mask deficiencies in an offensive line hampered by injuries and inexperience.
When Taylor injured his ankle early in the second quarter of a victory against Duke on Oct. 13, the former starter Sean Glennon led the Hokies on three straight TD drives. He finished 16-for-21 for 258 yards with two touchdowns and without an interception.

Coach Frank Beamer said Tuesday he doesn't think Taylor would play if he's not close to 100 percent recovered, especially not considering the stakes. The Eagles (7-0, 3-0) are one of only two other unbeatens in ACC play, and the Hokies will play the other one in their traditional Thanksgiving weekend contest at Virginia.

"I don't think you put Tyrod out there gimpy," Beamer said. "I think this is going to be a violent game. I think it's going to be one of those tough, tough, tough football games, and I don't think you want a guy that's not 100 percent out there."

The Eagles have the nation's top rushing defense, allowing 46.6 yards per game, and also lead with 18 interceptions.

When the change was made, Beamer said it wasn't as much an indictment on Glennon's play as it was a strategy adjustment. The offensive line has improved, but Virginia Tech is averaging only 119.4 yards rushing, 90th nationally.

Glennon initially took the demotion poorly, but the Hokies said his crisp performance against the Blue Devils showed he's bounced back since.

"It was good for him," left tackle Duane Brown said. "I know he got down on himself being that he had to sit out for a while and watch the offense go on without him. Being able to come in and have a great game, I think he got some of his confidence back."

Glennon started every game for the Hokies last season, and eventually came to believe he might be needed again and had to be ready to take over, Beamer said.

"I think it was very obvious how he came in and was able to play against Duke that he just was prepared," Beamer said. "This week, I see a bounce in his step."

Preparing a game plan isn't easy for either side when the quarterback is in question, Beamer said.

Boston College needs to prepare for a scrambler and a pocket passer. For Virginia Tech, the play-calling varies depending on who's in.

Though Beamer said the impact on the game is overblown.

To the Hokies receivers, it doesn't matter.

"We played with Sean before. I believe they have 100 percent confidence that every receiver's going to catch the ball, and we have 100 percent in whatever quarterback's going to play," Hokies receiver Justin Harper said. "We're ready to play. We're ready to catch that rock."

In Chestnut Hill, Mass., where the Eagles handed the Hokies a 22-3 loss last season and intercepted Glennon twice, linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar would prefer to know which quarterback will play for the Hokies.

A bigger issue could be what happened last year at BC, when the Hokies' second loss in a row all but eliminated them from ACC title contention.

"We had that mentality last year," Dunbar said of wanting to avenge a loss. "The year before, we went down there and got beat bad. I'm sure it could be in their mind."

The game will mark the 16th time that Virginia Tech has played in a Thursday night game televised by ESPN. The Hokies are 13-2 overall in those games and 8-1 at home.

Both of the losses have come to Boston College.

.........................................................
After watching Matt Ryan a few times this year I have been totally impressed with him and his ability to move the team and score points.

My instinct is to put my money down on BC and Matt Ryan in this game. If I do he will probably tank like a mofo , as college is not treating me so good. I think I will just watch this one.

I dont like that the QB Taylor is not going to play from all indications.

After further review....

I am starting to lean BC. I have capped this game heavily and it boils down to a few things, please feel free to put me back into place if you disagree. I initially liked Va Tech because of the 3.5 line which seemed to beg for BC money, but now the spread is back to 3. More importantly, I liked Va Tech because they are at home on Thurs night on ESPN where they are 13-2, both losses to BC. :scared Another huge stat is that BC is one of the best road teams there is going a solid 20-8 the last few years. But the most staggering stat that makes me like BC is that Va Tech cannot run the ball well this year, especially without the mobile freshman QB and BC can stuff run. Under Beamer, Va Tech is 19-56 when being outrushed. I have a feeling they will be outrushed based on what has happened in the 2007 season. Bottomline is that Va Tech is not good this year and BC is. Vegas knows that plenty of money will be on VaTech with Rutgers winning on their homefield last week, and Va Tech in a somewhat similar scenario. Plus, BC has Matt Ryan. This is now become a no brainer to me. BC on the moneyline it is.

Boston College +3.5 for 6.5* - Not going any bigger because of the reasons everyone has mentioned. However, Ryan is a stud and should move the ball and score points. The question mark is whether the Va. Tech defense and special teams score points. If the Hokies get cheap points, they win & probably cover. If Boston College makes them earn their points, BC can win the game and 3.5 points seems like a gift.

Let me ask you? Who would you want trying to get points with the game on the line? I hope you would say Ryan!

Did the same thing on Rutgers last week buying up to +3.5 early knowing where the # was going (or @ least $$ that moves #'s.) I think BC is probably the better team here, but they will lose this game. I liked getting +3.5 in the RU/USF, but I'll lay -2.5 - its the exact same scenario. The VT program perception is inflating the line and I'm sure all statistical, unbias data would make BC a play. If Glennon was under center I would be all over BC - he's not. VT 23-16. Blocked punt or FG returned for a TD ca$He$ VT tickets Thur. night.

.....reminds me of KY on the road @ So. Carolina. Very similar teams/circumstances. Very difficult spot for BC. BC would be much more attractive @ Noon Sat. start @ VT. Thur night @ Blacksburg? :SIB Hokies coming in w/no pressure. Lower ranked team, this is how they made a living back in the day. VT, although a slight favorite here, is insane ATS as homedog. BC being #2 - they consider themselves as dogs. With all that said, if Tyrod Taylor is out, I may buy BC back @ +4. -2.5 is a good early position here

I was under the impression that Talyor will be suiting up but probably will be limited. He is there only chance as he greatly improves their rushing attack with his mobility

Agree on Taylor. I was not aware of his ? status. The # is now -3 everywhere and -150 ML. I'm in @ -2.5 -140. Bummer. Hopefully this move isn't the "Glennon Factor." Unfortunately I think that may be the case. Any opposing D coordinator would much prefer Glennon rather than Taylor. In general, I'm not a real fan of any 2 QB rotation, but, assuming both are healthy, I like the idea of Glennon running a few series here and there w/Taylor taking 75% of snaps. One thing is for sure, this will be the best team BC has played all year no matter who plays QB for VT.

Other than the 48-7 ass-whipping put on them by LSU, I would venture to say that BC is the best team that V. Tech has played this year.... Neither team has played a very difficult schedule thus far.... I like my chances with BC, even on the road in hostile territory.

I don't think people truly understand the impact of playing on Thursday night in Blacksburg, Virginia. It's the schedule death penalty. BC will have to play a perfect game to beat VT tomorrow night. They haven't played a team that's even remotely close to as good as what VT has to offer, either.

BC could surprise me, but nothing I've seen from them says that they're good enough to win on Thursday night in Blacksburg.

I've been there as an opposing fan. It's hell on earth if you're not a Hokie.

Problem for Va Tech is that they have no running game, to top it off BC is tough against the run. Beamer coached teams have very little success when outrushed, and they will likely be outrushed on Thursday night. Doesn't help VaTech's cause when you compare the team's QB situation.
