Guys,

I'm heading to Vegas in January the weekend of the championship games. We have a group of 5 or 6 guys. Where would you suggest staying? I have decent comps at Harrahs so i was thinking possibly Rio? Anybody stay there before, any thoughts? I'd be up for Palazzo but don't think everyone else wants to spend that much on the room.

Rio will cost you a good bit on cabs because it's off the strip. If you want a Harrahs property, stay at Planet Hollywood. If you want cheap, stay at Harrahs or Imperial Palace for the location. PH location is decent though.

Rio will cost you zero on cabs if you just take the free shuttle to the Paris casino. They run twice an hour. Simply put there is no reason to take a cab to the Strip unless you want to.

But agree with Jack, if you have comps at any Harrah's property and you are doing the "party thing" with a bunch of guys. Then yep, I'd go with PH. No question that place is a "party spot".

Thanks for the comments guys. any thoughts on Paris? The standard rooms seem pretty small, 390sq ft? I'm thinking this could be a good spot though bc of the location. in the past i've stayed at mirage, caesars, signature and marriott.

Very true on IP...stay away from there. Actually all of the Harrah's properties are rundown but, if you can stay for free it is hard to pass up.

Harrahs (next to IP) is usually comped and that is a great location. Paris is much nicer and the food there is very good.

If you stay at the Rio you can walk across the street to Gold Coast if you play slots and then to Palms for more options for fun. Posters are right on the shuttle.

If you can stay at any property (Caesars is not usually comped), I would choose Paris or PH but I wouldn't gamble at either as each pays 6:5 on BJ.

Just saying it has the best location ;)

Nothing wrong with a bunch of guys staying there either  on the cheap.

I've only spent an afternoon in the sportsbook/bar with terry ray and had a great time. That's all I know about the joint.

I usually wind up at a HET hotel because I always get the comps there. Venetian usually gives me 4 nights but week nights only and MGM properties usually only give me 3 nights. Venetian backed out on an offer they recently sent me and I later found out that they are really cutting back on comps.

On the 8th thru 16th I'm staying at Harrahs because of the short walk to Venetian where I'll be playing poker every day. And Harrahs sucks, IMO, but I don't spend that much time in the room anyway. I don't even think they have 24/7 room service. And, yes, that place is run down. Yuck!

I still think the Mirage is your best bang for the buck.

I've met the Poker room manager there and he runs a great room.

For the record, the Mirage sucks. All I remember about the room is hearing everyone's doors slam shut while I was trying to pass out.

I like Paris the best of all the one's being considered. Room is small, but nice.

The Rio is a really cool place to stay for a big get together. Had a big group of us stay there about 7 years ago and it was awesome. We paid for cabs, but nobody in my group really gave a shit.
