Actually, they could have had him commited, so no....they didn't do all they could have.

Instead, he wound up be a burden on others, which they probably should have known would be the case, and ended up dead.

Maybe these dumb-assed cops should run the 'victim' route, like everyone else does, and claim if mom and dad did the responsible thing.....he wouldn't have been on the streets for them to kill?

You have no clue what all his family tried to do for him. All we know is he got the shit beat out of him by police officers. State to state the laws for committing someone aren't the same. In a lot of states it's very difficult and even if they get committed it doesn't mean they'll stay in there.
