Where it is real F ing COLD
I was too busy watching baseball, hoops and hockey with the boys and on my way home I had to listen to the dumb Viking guys hosting the "Draft Party" on radio.. These guys were so upset that the Vikes did not take Claussen with the 30th pick.. WTF are these guys thinking?... I am glad they traded down, got a 7th pick plus they draft 2nd it the 4th round and instead of 30th.. Well lets see.. The Colts are not taking a QB with Manning, neither are the Saints so that leaves the Rams who just took Bradford before the Vikes pick.. If they want Claussen they can get him unless someone trades up with St. Louis to get him.. (good possibilty) even if that happens they still get the DB they wanted.. I say if Claussen is on the board take him.. WHy not?? I think what the Vikes did was smart.

Agree, BP. I don't think the Vikings are going to go QB this year at all. If they thought Clausen or McCoy were worthy of an eventual shot at QB, I think they would have taken them at their spot at 30. As Spielman said after the trade - they have 4 guys they currently covet at the spot they traded to, plus moved up 28 spots in round 4 and picked up another low rounder. I think they'll probably package a couple of the lower picks and move up again today. They have something like 4 picks in the next 66, and figure they'd like to get say, 3 good players in this draft that could help them right away, depth-wise.

I think they go OL, CB/S and maybe RB or QB with a lower flier. They NEED OL help now, and I think they will go with the Saffold kid for that spot with their top pick. He supposedly can play two positions, and the Vikes have no depth at all on the line.

They could go CB, though, but those would be my two suggestions/hopes. I think Clausen is going to be a bust.

Exactly... But the guys on the KFAN were just so up in arms with trading down.. If they did want the QB he woulld still be there with pick 34 so why draft him with 30.. I don't know, I think Claussen is going to be good.. Chadman I agree with you on team needs and maybe Lito Shepard has something left in the tank but we derfinitely need O - Line, Linebackers, and D -Backs. But they do need a QB for the future and Claussen is about the best they will do for a long time draft wise.

I think the vikes are going to draft the corner from Virginia, Cook or Kindle, the linebacker from Texas.

I love that there's a separate thread just for the Vikings draft. :mj07: I would post a thread for the Seahawks draft but I would end up talking to myself...

Glenn, I think the Seahawks had a great first round. I don't think that team is too far off, actually.

I don't think the Vikes would have left the QB situation to chance with the Rams having the first pick right in front of them, knowing they have NO reason NOT to trade it away with so many needs, and it looks like a couple teams are moving on that spot today. I just don't think they value either QB that highly, and if they do pass on them, I think it sends a clear signal about Favre returning (which I think we all think, anyway).

I would bet they end up taking a project in the 3rd or 4th round at QB, there seem to be a couple decent sounding guys down at that level, and I think a good OL guy and a good DB would put them in position to make a real run at the Super Bowl this season. I'd actually like to see them get 2 OL'men this draft, as I think McKinnie is on his way out as soon as they can make that happen. With Hicks gone, the only backup of any worth is Cook, and he absolutely sucks, IMO. One or two injuries to that line with no help? Forget the Super Bowl THIS year.

AR, I heard Mike Florio from Scouts, Inc. talking about Kindle this morning, saying he has some kind of injury concern with a leg or foot or something. Evidently the teams know about it, and he might not go where people think because of it. Also, he's kind of a tweener-size, too small to be a DE, too slow/big to be a good OLB, unless it's weak side backer. Just what he said, I dunno.

I read that the Vikes traded down to 34 hoping to grab Patrick Robinson, who was grabbed by the Ssaints at 32.

Looks like the Saints have the Vikes number, no:shrug:

I heard that too, Cie. You have a point there, too about having our number temporarily...

:thefinger

We'll see you on opening night this season, though... I suppose a small hat or shirt wager will be in order...

He's a good player, from what I've read.

Oh I just meant I don't think there are a lot of Hawks fans on the board. But I can't say I'm surprised, after all we are tucked away up here in Alaska. ;) I can see Russia from my backyard! :sadwave:

But I digress... here's something to chew on, the Seahawks GM was on sports radio this morning and he said if Okung hadn't been there at 6 they were strongly considering taking Claussen in that spot. :scared

I was so busy watching baseball that I forgot about the draft... Well now I have to read up on cook. I guess getting Gerhart in the second round is good but we need some O line..

Don't know much about the USC DE, but sounds like he might be worth a flyer. Sounds a lot like Ray Edwards, what they already have with the hot/cold thing.

REALLY want to see them pick up a couple of OL prospects today. Think they've done a good job thus far. Really interested to see what Gerhart brings to the table. He sounds like a good option to add to the mix, and being white will play well publicly up here in blonde Norwegian-land :)SIB ). I think he should be a good option as a #2 back for Peterson.

Vikes did the right thing drafting Gerhart..he is a workhorse Bill Brown type and great injury insurance against butterfingers Peterson.

Why aren't the Vikings going for Central Mike QB LaFevour ?????????
This kid can play
