The Minnesota Vikings web site is reporting that the Vikes have reached an agreement with former professional wrestler Brock Lesner.....It didn't really elaborate any further than that.

I haven't been able to get too much info on him, but from what I can find he wrestled at the University of Minnesota, but did not play football. It looks they are going to use him as a defensive lineman??

I mean the guy is huge, but is this a publicity stunt, or what??

Ex-WWE star Brock Lesner got in a motorcycle accident. He'll be ok, but what caught my eye was that he ran a 4.65 40 in a private workout. He certainly makes for an interesting NFL prospect. Since he hasn't played organized football since high school he's a perfect candidate for NFL Europe.

found that info on it.

Brock Lesnar
Brand: Smackdown
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 295 lbs
Hometown: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Finishing Move: F-5
Other Aliases: The Next Big Thing,

The son of a farmer and former National Guardsmen, Brock Lesnar first rose to prominence when he won the 1998 NJCAA Amateur Wrestling Championship and the tender age of 21. Trained by Gerald Brisco's former roommate, Brock went on to become good pals with another WWE Superstar, Shelton Benjamin in his junior year at the University of Minnesota and had storied rivalries with NCAA amateur stars like Steve Nealon and Wes Hand. Particularly competitive with Wes Hand, Lesnar defeated his rival in the 2000 National Championships and went on to win the whole tournament before graduating from college a few weeks later.

Out of college and addicted to wrestling, Brock trained in OVW for roughly a year while teaming with his old buddy Shelton Benjamin as The Minnesota Stretching Crew before getting ready for the big time. Debuting in the WWE with Paul Heyman as his manager on RAW the night after WrestleMania X8, Lesnar quickly catapulted in popularity because of his massive size and strength. His unbelievable title victory over The Rock at Summer Slam 2002 and subsequent feud with The Undertaker made the youngster even more famous. But it's duo's Hell in a Cell match at No Mercy 2002 stands out as the highlight of Brock's career. Now embroiled in an on-again/off-again feud with fellow amateur wrestling star Kurt Angle, "The Next Big Thing" continues his rise as one of the dominant forces in the WWE.

Looks like Lesnar is having an impact on the Vikings --- bringing that wrestling mentality to practice. This is probably what they envisoned when they thought of the XFL.

LESNAR RECORDS FIRST SACK, SCRUM

Never mind the fact that it came at a time when quarterbacks are supposed to be off limits. Or that it happened against a team whose coach wanted an overly zealous Minnesota "shot in the head" for being too rough in joint practices a year ago. Former wrestler Brock Lesnar got his first sack on Friday, and that's all that mattered to him.

"I can't remember the last time I had this much fun," Lesnar said, adding that he "knows only one way to play, and that's 110 percent."

Lesnar sacked quarterback Damon Huard during joint drills between the Vikings and the Chiefs. Huard suffered a hyperextended elbow, and the Chiefs were generally pissed off by the move.

Lesnar showboated after dropping Huard, which touched off a "large brawl" between Vikings and Chiefs players. Afterwards, Lesnar removed his helmet and "stalked around the field."

Apart from the pro wrestling antics that Lesnar brings to the table, his football skills are genuinely on the rise.

"Brock is getting better every day," said assistant defensive line coach Jim Paganos. "He has a long way to go, but today he did some very good things. We saw him turn the corner in the middle of the week. Every day, it's better. Today was very good."

Regardless, Lesnar sparked a series of incidents that might bring to an end the training camp collaboration between the Vikings and the Chiefs. Several fights followed, and a big hit on Chiefs tight end Billy Baber by safety Brian Russell resulted in a serious knee injury for Baber.

"If you're going to get guys hurt, then there's no reason [to practice against the Vikings]," Kansas City quarterback Trent Green said. "It's better work because you get to come and face another team that plays a different defense. . . . There's a lot of good that can come from it. But if you don't control the tempo, you can't control [physical contact], and then there's that risk of getting hurt."

Vikings linebacker E.J. Henderson disagrees. "I've never heard of being overly physical in football," he said.

Either way, it looks like the Vikings finally are putting together a defense that can properly complement its high-octane offense. If that happens, they might be capping their 2004 season with a trip to Jacksonville.
