VIRGINIA +6 - Maryland is one of the weaker 6-3 teams in the country in my opinion, as they have yet to beat what I feel is a quality team. In fact, the only team that the Terrapins have beaten that currently has a winning record is West Virginia at 5-4, and I feel that the Mountaineers are not as strong as this Virginia team. Most alarming is the fact that Maryland is 3-5 ATS despite playing a soft schedule. As if that is not bad enough, they are being asked to give nearly a touchdown here with their top 2 running backs both out with injuries! Granted, the Cavaliers lost by 14 points in their last road game, but Virginia is only losing their road contests this year by an average of 5.4 points, slightly under this line. They also upset Maryland convincingly 48-13 last season as 11-point underdogs, and I think that Terps team was stronger that what they have on the field this year. While this may not resemble that rout of last year, I do expect Virginia to stay in this game until the end, and another upset would not surprise me.

How did you get that stat? Their 3 road losses this year were by 24, 3, and 14???

To best answer your first comment, you have to understand the approach I take when I look at sides. The first thing I do is I look for reasons to play AGAINST the favorite. Therefore, I am a little more forgiving if the underdog has some flaws, especially when getting more than a field goal. While your point that Virginia hadn't beaten anyone either is valid, in my mind, all that does is put these teams on common ground, and does NOT substantiate either team being a 6-point favorite.
As for the average losing margin, when I give an average margin for home or away games, I look at ALL home or ALL away games. In this case, you need to factor in Virginia's road wins to come down to my figure.
