Im jealous man, being in my early 20s still I always wanted to go to new orleans (I have different priorities than you being married has ;) ) basically get hammered, go to sporting events and meet women and see a few cool things too....Nonetheless, ive done some reading on the subject. They have tours of I think the mississippi river, swamp and probably some historic sites, I don't know prices, and I think they're a bit more than I think they should be, but the boat rides are nice touring the Miss. River I bet, with some guy talking w/facts also i presume....I'd go to www.bigeasy.com, has some information on specific tours, I went there to look for restaurants et al, but they have some of what you probably are looking for

c20916,

the hotel where you are staying should be able to help you.

i have one place that was recommended to me & i highly recommend it also.

there is a restaurant called "court of 2 (or 3) sisters" that has the best brunch that i have ever eaten. the choices are outstanding!!
but it also has a dixieland band that plays continuous, along with tap dancers, magic acts & more.it may have changed since i was there about 10 years ago, but it defintely is a place that you should check out.

enjoy your trip!!

"Mothers", Oh man that food is great. And a great bargain also!

Also for breakfast, go to Petunias. It has sensational food and all of the waiters are gay, but lots of fun. That was about the best breakfast my family and I have ever had.

was there for mardi-gras in 2000!! check out the bourbon st. blues club, harrah's casino, the house of blues, bubba gumps shrimp factory and try to get an air boat swamp tour!! i've got the phone number somewhere for the swamp tour if you would like it. it was a blast, we seen at least 20 gators out there!! they'll even pick you up at the hotel. you'll be surprised at how prominent voodoo is there. in one of the bars i was in, the barmaid would not let us video tape or take pictures of her for fear of it stealing her soul!! freaked out, but a blast!! you''ll love it!! have fun!! jj:toast:

New Orleans is my favorite city. I am also going for the Sugar Bowl (if USC is playing). If I go, this will be my 4th time visiting New Orleans. Its a great city if you like to eat and drink. Also a lot of history there to see. Here is a list of things i enjoyed.

"Restaurants"

Nola's
Reasonable price, very good food, emerald is the owner/chef, $20 a plate

Mr. B's Bistro
BBQ SHRIMP, that is what i always get, its fantastic

Gallatoir
Very good food, $20 - $25 plate, BEEF is EXCELLENT

"Dessert"

Cafe Du Mond
Famous for Beignets (like a powder donut). Very nice to go walk over there and sit and eat. Very popular place and nice to sit outside.

"Breakfast"

Brennans's
Pre-Fix breakfast, menu set, $35
TURTLE SOUP, ENTREE, DESERT- Banana Foster
MUST GO THERE, very very good, but expensive.

Court of 2 sisters is a very good brunch as well.

I LOVE TO DRINK, and if you do too, New Orleans is the place to be. There are 3 drinks i stuff myself with because you basically only can get them in New Orleans.

Hurricane, Mint Julep (my favorite), and SAZERAC. These are the 2 best places to get these drinks.

Pat O' Briens
Famous for the Hurricane and Mint Julep

FAIRMOUNT HOTEL, famous for the SAZERAC

Now I am not sure if you enjoy history/sightseeing but New Orleans is famous for Plantations. I have toured maybe 5-7 of them, with my parents. My mom really like them, so maybe your wife is also interested.
If you are only going to see one, def. go see Oak Alley Plantation. The tours are interesting and not that expensive. This Oak Alley Plantation is a sight to see with the OAK TREE's all line up in a row.

Things i have done in my last 3 times staying there........
Paddle Boat on Miss. River tour
Cemetery interesting to see (only daytime)
Flea Market
St. Charles Cathedral
Harrah's Casino
Aquarium (albino Alligator)

You do a lot of walking and sightseeing in the French Quarter and many open shops. Very fun city to walk around. Maybe go into a club to hear some jazz. Eat a PO BOY (i like catfish and shrimp po boys) for lunch. Also always enjoy bringing home peanut brittle too.

Hope you have a fun trip and don't hesitate to ask if you want to know anything more about New Orleans.

Out of curiousity, which team are you rooting goes?

FIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the info, this will come in handy,

Scott, I am not really rooting for one team or another to go, I just want to see a good game, like last years.
