I don't know if you can have two teams moving in different directions than these two right now. The Vols are surging and have taken over the personality of first year head coach, Cuonzo Martin, and Bammer doesn't know from one day to the next who is on their team.
One week of their first road win at Florida, the Vols head to Coleman as winners of four straight and five of their last six. In those five wins, the Vols margin of victory is 12.4 ppg.
On the other bench, Anthony Grant's boys are reeling. After opening the season 2-0 in SEC play, Bammer has lost six of nine, and two of the three wins were by 2 at home vs Ole Miss, and 6 at home vs Arkansas. Neither of the two very impressive.
Both coaches have taken hard line stances when it comes to discipline. Tennessee will be without it's starting Center, 6'9 Kenny Hall, for the second straight game. Alabama will be without it's two leading scorers, 6'8 JaMychal Green and 6'6 Tony Mitchell.
Clearly this means advantage Tennessee. Green and Mitchell combine for 27 ppg and 14 boards. Although a starter, Hall averages only 6 points and 4 boards a game.
This is where depth plays a huge part for the Vols. Tennessee can still go 8 deep on the bench without skipping a beat, and even have 2-3 more players who have played solid minutes in big games. I don't think the same can be said about Bammer.
Call it a trap game, call it Tennessee still cannot win on the road, call it Bama's rallying cry, or whatever you want. I have seen the two teams play in the last week, and unless the under-sized Bammer team hits 65% from the floor, I see the Vols continuing to roll and Bammer continuing to reel.
