I was considering this mode of cable TV and was wondering if anyone has any experience or knows of anyone with this new network. I have the web link but being technology challenged, I was hoping some folks may have actual feedback to provide. I am tired of Comcast just offering a few channels in HDTV.

Can anyone provide input on quality, coverage, and satisfaction from this network? Any input would greatly appreciative!

its a satelitte company, that has the most hdtv channels out there. they aren't to big of a company. i guess some of their hd channels are kind of bogus. like some channels are like a 24/7 aquarium hd or foregin channels in hd, kind of wierd. i guess they charge quite a bit for installation, but im sure they have some specials going on. all i know is in the chicago land area only 1% of the people have Voom, so it can't be that great. ive talked to some customers that have had it before and they felt it was ripoff. like i said before i would email them or call them up to see what they have though.

from what i hear to is Comcast expects to launch a boat load of HD channels this summer anyways. it may be worth the wait...

Kdogg, i have voom for my widescreen and love it. Yeah, there are a few problems, mainly because theyre still getting the kinks worked out but besides that it's awesome. If you don't have HD, I'm not sure it would be worth much.

Actually the aquarium channel is cool. It's nice to have that on in the background when youre not watching tv. It sounds and looks like you have an aquarium. Kind of soothing.

I would recommend getting it. And i've had comcast, directv and dish.

From what I understand VOOM may be on shaky ground. They have far fewer subscribers at this point than they anticipated. And while they do offer more HD than any other provider ~at present~, they will soon lose that advantage.

Directv is going to be greatly expanding it's HD content over the next few years. They have had limited satellite space available for HD for some time...and the space they did have they have had to keep reserved for Sunday Ticket HD. This coming weekend is the final one for Sunday Ticket, and it's expected a few more HD channels will be added to their lineup shortly thereafter as they will now have a bit more bandwidth to work with. It's very likely TNT HD will be at the top of the list.

However, the big news is that DTV is due to launch 4 new satellites within the next 3 years, all devoted almost entirely to HD. Two of them will be launched in 2005 - one around April I think, which would make it operational around July or so(?), the other in the fall. The other two sat's go up in 2007. The first satellites will carry mostly local HD channels (CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, PBS) for all of the largest markets in the US. For the time being you are only able to get the major networks in HD if you 1) live in NYC or LA, or 2) live in a very remote area of the country not local to any major network affiliate (unlikely, only about 10% of the continental US falls into that category), or 3) have waivers from your local affiliates (which are not easy to obtain in many cases). However, by mid-to-late 2005 anyone within the territories of about the 40 largest US markets will not have this problem anymore.

As I understand it, given the high cost of VOOM and their tiny market share, when DTV gets these new birds up it's basically Doom for Voom, as they will not have a competitive advantage in any area over Directv. So you might want to investigate things a bit further before you invest too much money in the equipment. Avsforum is an excellent place to start.

Thanks guys for the replies, the info link from njsf was very helpful indeed. VOOM is offering a speial right now for three rooms installed for $1 and no contract. The only carrier/installer here is Sears and I am getting ready to run down and talk with them. From the feedback provided, I now have much more ammo to talk with them. From AVS forums, most all of the people that have the service do like it. It does suck for all of us HDTV folks to have limited choices for this great TV. Be glad when all channels have to support.

Also, one of the reasons I am looking for another service, Comcast here sucks except for the internet. Our cable package does not include the channels of Fox,TNT, PBS or many others that are available in other markets. The basic service with just ABC, NBC, CBS, Discovery and InHD runs about $65 a month. Ripoff IMO! VOOM at least offers 41 channels in HD plus every pay channel for $79.90!

Thanks again for the feedback!!
