Mitt Romney slammed the Republican primary debates, and the media, in the same call to donors in which he made his infamous "gifts" comments.

Romney's criticism of the debate process was obscured by his statements that President Obama beat him by giving "gifts" to key constituencies. But, as ABC News noted on Thursday, Romney said that the debates had hampered the GOP from the beginning of the campaign.

"We had 20 Republican debates, that was absolutely nuts," he said. "It opened us up to gaffes and to material that could be used against us in the general, and we were fighting these debates for a year, and the incumbent president just sat back and laughed."

Romney benefited from the primary debates more than, say, Rick Perry, but the forums became more well-known for elevating the Herman Cains of the party, as well as highlighting primary crowds that booed gay soldiers and applauded executions.

Romney also said that the networks that hosted the debates were working against the party. He said that next time, the GOP should "agree that we're gonna do, you know, I don't know, eight debates, and we're gonna, we're gonna do one a month, and we're gonna pick stations that are reasonable, it's not all gonna be done by CNN and NBC, alright, I mean we're gonna try and guide this process so that it's designed to showcase the best of our people as opposed to showcasing liberals beating the heck out of us."

what does a sore loser look like ?

yes if not for everyone else and all things external the world would have recognised mitt romney how he recognises himself. :SIB

it's everyone else's fault.

everyone else made the 47% of the people comment getting rid of half of Americas votes.

everyone else talked about not having enough ships and increasing the military by trillions .

everyone else made him flip flop left and right, or was it right and left.

everyone else made him never state his position on taxes and hide his views on issues to make no one mad at him. Thats not leadership

everyone else made his economic plan ambiguous and Ryan a non issue.

everyone else told him not to show his taxs

Willard himself was perfect. what's wrong with the world not to love me he said to himself over and over.

Doesn't matter how many debates or how long the primaries lasted....

If you tell the truth and are truely saying where you stand on the issues then you wouldn't experience any gaffes or stupid moments in time.

Problem with Mitt was he had lied on so many occassions, he couldn't keep it all straight and he thought that money would buy happiness like it always has ..........

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) showed no sympathy for Mitt Romney on Sunday, blasting the 2012 GOP presidential candidate's comment that President Barack Obama's "gifts" to certain groups sealed his fate.

?We?re in a big hole,? said Graham in an interview on NBC?s ?Meet the Press." ?We?re not getting out of it by comments like that. When you?re in a hole, stop digging. He keeps digging."

Romney's remarks came in a conference call with donors on Wednesday. He told supporters that his campaign on "big issues for the whole country" lost out to Obama's "targeted" efforts toward blacks, Hispanics and young voters.

"The president's campaign, if you will, focused on giving targeted groups a big gift," Romney said on the call. "He made a big effort on small things."

Graham disagreed with Romney's claim, linking Obama's overwhelming Latino support with Romney's costly comments on immigration -- notably self-deportation.

"Conservatism is an asset," Graham said. "But rhetoric like this keeps digging a hole for the Republican Party. And if we don't stop digging, we're never going to get out of it."
