Actually, market size based on the CSA (combined statistical area) has Pittsburgh at 2.6 million, followed by St. Louis @ 2.9 million. The rest of the teams involved have way bigger populations from which to draw. A particular teams fan-base is another argument altogether. The Pittsburgh and St. Louis markets are very similar My point being-the Cardinals aren't necessarily thought of as a small market team, given their fan-base and attendance figures but in terms of area population, they definitely are.
