I can only hope this poll might have some truth as I found it encouraging.

According to the Friends (Quakers) Committee on National Legislation with offices in D.C..

In order of effectiveness, how we can best influence our elected representatives: (from a poll of congressional staff by the Congressional Management Foundation)

Constituent Visits
Consituent Representative Visit (a group who represents constituents)
Individualized Letters
Individualized Email
Individualized Faxes
Phone Calls
Lobbyist Visit
Form Letters
Form email
Form faxes
(Note absence of any need to send money (bribery)

KC, while some here will scoff at the idea, I know making appointments and speaking to representatives about issues can make a difference. Some of the bills they deal with they frankly don't have as much time as they would like, and they appreciate viewpoints. I made a few trips to the state legislators when I worked as a Communications Specialist, and a couple times visited them here locally.

Of course it varies - but I think it can make a difference, and if nothing else you can feel better about getting your opinion off your chest.
