I recall the following proposal which I thought was far too lenient on the truly wealthy. Still, I would have preferred this plan to the possibility of reverting to previous levels, however small that possibility may be:shrug:
Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., had been brokering a compromise among Republicans and Democrats interested in paring down the tax and rewriting the quirky law that kills and resurrects the tax.
He proposed exempting the first $5 million of an individual's estate, or $10 million of a couple's, from taxation. The size of estates escaping the tax would increase each year to keep pace with inflation.
Estates between $5 million and $30 million would be taxed at rates equal to capital gains, and the remainder would be taxed at 30 percent.
''That is a fair way to help the people at the lower end of the spectrum and yet collect the revenue from those very, very wealthy estates that we all agree can pay part of this estate tax,'' Kyl said.
That effort attracted some of the senators who had been wary of repealing the tax but agreeable to shrinking its impact on heirs, but it did not attract enough Democrats who had expressed interest in negotiating a deal.
BTW, a repeal of this law is out of the question. I actually read that the repeal of this tax would allow the family of the former CEO of Exxon Mobil a tax break of $160mil and the families of GW Bush, Cheney and Bush's cabinet members $350 million combined :scared I wonder why the push for a repeal:shrug: :142smilie

That was a lot of scotch/ice. What that photo does not show is decline in thickness in the ice in places of over 20 ft. I guess you could say a bottle half full. Still ice for the scotch. Maybe not enough for other creatures. But something is strange.

Where is Weasel, who should be in charge of appropriate right wing conservative name calling? I think all names should have to filter through him before being posted for some of you. Not only are his sometimes appropriate to any real subject, they are also sometimes funny. Many here, of late, are just plain stupid, which, of course, explains a lot about the content of some of the posts surrounding the frustrated name call attempts.
