That night club fire last night cnn had it live from local feed watched it for like 3 hours , that was unreal feel very bad for anyone who has a loved one pass on but like that and chic a few days agao i just don't understand it, how it caught fire so fast there was a tv man in there filming and it was unreal you could see it go up in the left on the wall and up from there.

Never seen anything like that so fast it was shocking watching it and last night or early am it or they said people were hurt a good bit but woke up today and saw the death toll i just don't have a grasp on the death thing , i know this might be the wrong thing to talk about here but i do believe when it's your time it is your time ,i have a strong faith in god but deaths like this raise questions that i can't find out why, just like the poor girl at duke if something happens was she ment to go because of a mistake? i know it might sound stupid not questioning god but it makes me think is it really ment to end like that for people? don't want a war over this but i don't understand all the time with some deaths any feed back would be helpful from any faith. and please no knocking others faith or non faith that is there right and i respect that. but it really puzzles me and has for a few years even more since my mom passed like she did.

Thanks and have a good day

been watching this all morning Eric, this place is less than 30 minutes from me. Actually there was a good chance my youngest brother was there until I could track him down this morning. Don't know him at all but "Doc Holliday" who post here is very close to that area. Death toll now approaching 70 & they say could go 80 + very very sad.
How many of us can say we haven't gone to a club to see a band? Probably none. And your life is snatched away like that.

Going to go give blood in Rhode Island today, what else can you do? Just another example that life is so precious, should enjoy yourself every day & not take anything for granted. Hell these people just going to have a couple drinks & watch a band, what a disaster.

I dont understand. Fire chief sad all 4 doors working ok. But he said its human nature to go out same door you came in. Fletch that brings up the human part of it. We at least many, just dont think as we should under extreem presure. Fletch many believe a date is picked for them. Some folks wont even go to a Doctor. They say it does no good. Not the same as being in a accedent like this. However there are those that will say it's the Lords way.
That no matter what they are al better off then being here. I have no idea whos right.

I too have a friend who lives right in that area. Watching the amateur video shot inside the club was unreal. I called my buddy to make sure he was OK, then we got to laughing about something (which is all we could do in the face of this situation):

Which is harder to comprehend? The senseless death of 70 people, or that 200 people showed up for a Great White concert?

Toll....85 and could go up. Where was the owners/managers to point out proper exits? They ran and left the others to fend for themselves and die in the flames. Thier cowardice is the real story.

"Side note"
I can't believe Great White is still touring.

Fletcher, if I may, I don't think we, in this life, will ever know the answer to the question you originally posted about. Personally I believe that we make our own choices and God knows what they are, but chooses to allow the consequences in our lives. If we are not free to do our own thing and make our own choices then worship of any god you choose would be pointless, meaning it would be forced on you and not truly meaningfull.
Why do people die like that, or why do things happen to little girls, or why are jack asses allowed to fly planes into buildings, well I just don't know, sorry. I do know when my little girl was born things did not go well at all, AT ALL, and without going into detail I can say the outlook was bleak at best. My wife and I and several close friends prayed for her everyday of the 17 days she was in intensive care, she is almost 4 years old and shows no signs of the trouble she was in when she was born, coincidence or answered prayer? I know what I believe. Since that time she was diagnosed with arthritis and people ask why God, who saved her life before would allow her to have such a problem, again I just don't know, sure wish I did though. I know this does not answer your question, but at least you know there are more of us who wonder the same thing.

I'm Glad I didn't see it last night. Just watching it on news all day made me very sad and sick to my stomach at the same time.
Tragic loss of life in both instances..

"the bunker"
looked to me

looked to me

like the people at the club had a moment or two of indecision as to whether the initial plumes of flame were actually part of the act....many just stood there watching...then several moments later, some guy started motioning people towards the exits....like fletch,i was sort of surprised at the speed with which the fire accelerated.....the place went up in a heartbeat....and the smoke was unreal.....what a tragedy.....

and fletch....we`re all human beings....i don`t believe many of us haven`t had a few things happen in our life to shake our respective faiths a little....you are not alone....g.l.

We all look at death differently. No one can be sure. We have to have faith to pull us thru. I have a good friend who lost two Children to different diseases. He has never visited their graves. He believes they are in heaven so there is no need to visit the graves. His wife died a few months ago and when I gave him my condolences he said not to be sad because she is with John and Mike now.
I certainly do not have the answer but I kind of like his theory.

Eric, I was born in Warwick, Rhode Island (right next to West Warwick (where the fire was) Had been to that club many times years ago. had many different names then.

Rhode Island ALWAYS had this big thing with the fire marshalls. Shocked to see it happen so close to home (and wondering if I knew any of the 100+ that passed away. Still shocked.

I think its important to note now that some news has come out that perhaps the club owners were not entirely at fault. Two other clubs on this circuit have come out today saying that during this tour, Great White lit off pyro without permits and after explicitly being told not to do so. They just snuck it on stage and did it anyway. Since it only lasted a few seconds, these other two club owners allowed the shows to continue. However at no time did the band have any sort of permission or permit to do so. It appears this time they did not escape as lucky as they did at the other two clubs.

And for those who would say well wait, how can someone not notice the band is sneaking this stuff on stage. I spent a brief summer in a band and worked on stage setups after that. In my opinion it would be very easy for a band to sneak that by the club. There is so much going on in a dark club between sets, with equipment being moved off, strange equipment and cases being brought on for the new artist, amps and monitors - in my opinion these tiny flashpots would be easy to conceal.

And the club was small and old enough that it didnt have to have sprinkler systems. Ironically that news crew in the club was doing a documentary on club safety and noted that all the emergency lights were working and the exit signs were lit all over the club. What a tragedy this was.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I heard that the ceiling in the club was very inflammable. I also think that the club owners have some responsibility with this tragedy. Their club, they should supervise what extra's an act needs to perform.

I think you mean very flammable. With false ceilings, which I am under the impression the club had, I can see this place going up in a minute.

While I dont hold them blameless, in a small 300 person club, you probably have one MAYBE two stage hands or stage managers. But at most gigs of that size, bands load and setup their own gear and there just isnt the need nor the economics to employ a ton of club personel to watch every little thing. Beside that, they snuck this stuff into two other clubs, I mean if they show up with something that looks like an oversized drumstick holder / cylicrical case, then chances are it doesnt look out of place on stage and again no club of this size anywhere in the country has the kind of personel to watch and inspect everything that goes on during a multi-band evening.

The fact that the band has already broken the law at least twice that we know about in previous shows leads me to believe more guilt will eventually shade their way than the way of the club. The club will still be found liable, probably on some negligence charges, but not to the extent people think. I mean there was a camera crew there filming that all the emergency equipment was working the exits were lit and clear.

The fire chief was saying the main problem in this case was there were 4 fire exits but people didnt know they were there, probably because you just dont look around for things like that often enough. Psychologically our instincts are to go out the way we came.

Ace, flammable and imflammable both mean the same thing (easily inflamed) go figure, huh? i will NEVER understand that one ;)

SUCH a major tragedy this was. hard to say who will take most of the *blame* but what difference does it really make...no matter the fault, the lives have been taken and nothing will change that. :(

the one thing that leads me to believe that the club will take more of the blame than the band, would be the blood alcohol level of patrons that perished. (if they can even test that) people *stumbling* out of an establishment isn't gonna go as well as people running out.

They have been showing footage all day and interviewing surviors on the local Boston stations, death toll at 96 and climbing, no words to describe the video footage!!

Before fire started the camera was panning through the crowd, you look at all the faces and wonder which ones didn't make it.

many many problems here contributing to this catastrophe. Fraternity bother of mine is State representative in West Warwick.

1, as mentioned previously Great White has used these Pyro devices before in establishments where owners did not approve. Conversely the band has not used Pyro in recent concerts, including the one immediately prior to West Warwick, in Bangor Maine. The band is stating they always ask the establishment if Pyro can be used, if denied they don't use it. However it seems on some occasions the band sets up Pyro & if it goes unnoticed they proceed with it. This will probably be the debated point, if the band received permission or just wasn't denied permission. I do know the owners are very prominent people in the Rhode Island Community, one of the brothers was a news reporter/Anchor at channel 12 Providence. He is noted to be very concerned about safety ironically enough & was filming the "club safety" video because of his heart felt reaction to what happened in Chicago.

2, neighbors in close proximity to club had been complaining about noise, egg crate like material was installed around the band area to soften noise & act as a sound proof layer. Problem is the material used was polyoxyethylene (extremely flammable) as opposed to the flame retardant material that should have been used.

3 the building was built in 1950, hence was grandfathered and did not require fire sprinklers which are mandated on any building of public use after 1977.

4. Exacting precise head count has been almost impossible because the person selling/collecting tickets is one of the people missing. By most accounts the building appears to be over crowded by law, although again this is difficult to ascertain.

Further complicating things is the facts that most people were drinking, initially several thought that the initial flames were part of the show, and as mentioned previously 90% of the people rushed to the front door (the one they came in), which was a single swinging door. I saw several different people say if you weren't out of the building within 60 seconds you had absolutely no chance. Unfortunately that's not very long.

May those unfortunate rest in peace

I was also raised in Warwick (Apponaug) and I went to school in West Warwick (St. James)
It was a sad, tragic thing that happened there and my prayers go out to the victims and their families.
If anyone wants to see the Rhode Island newspaper they can go to www.projo.com

Jesus Christ is my Defense lawyer. I am guilty, but I get a flyer becasue he was nailed to a tree, and his blood washes away my filth.

I know some people are saying, you got the filth part right, but you are also filth.

Things like this will happen on earth, it is not heaven until you get to heaven.

Jesus said I am the way the truth and the light, nobody goes to heaven but by me.
