Sportsaholic,

If this is your machine, any problems one should be aware of?

I'm in the market, and from what I've read buying new is dark territory. Bells, whistles, computer panels equals pure junk and costly repairs. Many say used is the way to go I'm looking for opinions. Thanks.

Much, much better than a lullaby. I was fast asleep in 30 seconds. The rinse cycle woke me up.

"the bunker"
buddy...can`t you get a lower end model without all the frills?...I agree about the computer b.s. being more trouble than it`s worth(same with new cars) and it`s been a good while since we bought a new washer...we`ve had decent luck with whirlpool(I`m sure someone will come in and say whirlpool sucks...that`s fine...that`s OUR experience with it).......

one thing I want to mention...when we did have to buy a new washer, the hoses they installed were thin and cheezy(real garbage),,,,I removed them and put the thick, old reliable hoses back on the new machine...

Bought a very clean, used, Whirlpool top loader that works like a dream (even came with metal braided water hoses!).
Only downside is that's it's nearly as old as I am.
"All" liquid and half cup Geritol.
Good to go!

I had a Kenmore that lasted about 25 years before it finally died last week. My aunt gave it to me when she remarried about 12 years ago.

If you take good care of it, it will last you a very long time. Good luck. With washers older models are the way to go. :toast:

How do you take good care of a washing machine?

1. Don't overload it.
2. Don't beat on it.
3. Don't move it. If you do move it, keep it upright and don't damage it.
4. If something goes wrong with it have a professional fix it.
5. Don't take it apart or try to work on it yourself.
6. Treat it with respect.

Google "How to take good care of your washing machine." Read and heed.

Any time, man. There is a lot of information about washing machines on the internet. A machine that doesn't last 20 years was either botched at the factory or due to owner negligence of some kind.

:0008

Who would have thought? Appreciate it man. Never had washing machine last more than 10 years. Luck of the draw I guess. Hell my last AC unit lasted 6 years just past the warranty and I had that thing serviced like clockwork. 5K down the drain.

Sometimes they screw them up at the factory or when they moved them around after manufacture. You're right, that's pretty much a crap shoot. That's why you need to buy from a retailer who stands by their products.

Kenmore or any make by Sears are usually good products.

A lot of products manufactured in the US are made on purpose to go bad right after the warranty runs out. Cars are a good example.

That's one reason why we are behind the Germans and Japanese in product quality. The other reason is because Americans are more interested in maximizing profit margin by cutting corners than making good product.
