Artificial Insemination is when sperm is collected and deposited directly in to the vagina without copulation. It has nothing to do with female eggs and has the same twin rate as any other natural process.
In Vitro Fertilization is when there is an over stimulation of egg production, which is then harvested and introduced to sperm outside of the woman's body. Once fertilized and cell division begins, the blastocysts are reintroduced to the woman's uterus for implantation and pregnancy. Sometimes more than one blastocyst/embryo is inserted to raise the chance of pregnancy. Twin pregnancy rates can be as high as 40% in these cases.
