dawgball, when i started working for the company i am at now, one of the first things i did was optimize their site. It has ranked #1 in yahoo about a year now, for the keyword demographic we were aiming for. For us it was not cost effective to go the pay per click method when i was getting same/better results just researching what/how the user views are site, then optimize it to suit there needs. If you want, get my email from jack, and I can send you the sites that I would recommend.
Check out this site: Position Tech All the best search engines are free to submit to, but I'd rather pay to get in fast. I do not have a couple of months to wait to be "found" by spidering.

we currently use the CPC at overture and google adwords. it is quicker to get on, but the long-term cost effectiveness does not seem to be there. we have used CPC for over three years now. we optimized our website on our own, but the algorithms (sp?) change frequently and we are in a highly competitive market for this. i want to explore paying someone on an on-going basis to maintain our SEO. there are so many companies out there that do this, and i know the industry is filled with scam jobs. i am looking for some recommendations for trusted companies.
