How he won a world series last year is beyond me... well, truthfully they were very lucky to be in the playoffs...
My big play today was the Cards.. and Wainright was about what I figured. What I forgot is how bad the Cardinals lineup is - I mean 9 hits/walks in the 1st 5 innings against Maholm - who was ripe to get slammed - and they get 2 runs. Terrible.
Then LaRussa - anyone could see you DON'T bring Wainright back in the bottom of the 7th. Yes, he had a good 5th and 6th.. BUT... he was at 91 pitches coming into the 7th.. AND the top of the 7th took about 1/2 hour for the Cards to strand their typical 2 runners and not score. On a cold day, the SP, if he comes back out, ALWAYS gets ripped right after.
Casual fans know this - but LaRussa doesn't obviously.
Good bet on the Pirates. I forgot totally about the managing advantage Pitt had. Shit, even Pujols sucks today.
