TIGERS

The Tigers had won seven straight with their win last Friday at Pittsburgh. But since then, Detroit has dropped three of four and this is a team that had won 30 of 42 away from Comerica Park prior to visiting the Bay area. Detroit will bounce back this afternoon behind the arm of veteran Kenny Rogers (10-3, 3.72).

The Tigers have won eight of Rogers' 10 road starts this year and the last three overall. He should have success against a light-hitting Oakland team that has produced just 10 runs in its last four games and is batting a mere .193 in its last seven contests.

Oakland, which had dropped five of six prior to the Tigers' visit, is only 7-20 versus Rogers in his career. The Tigers hit righties hard (.288) and they should jump on Oakland starter Kirk Sarloos (3-4, 4.61) as the A's have a losing record in his nine starts this season.

Rogers has a career mark of 24-4 and a 3.40 ERA at what is now known as McAfee Coliseum. It's obvious he's comfortable pitching there and he'll be on the this afternoon as he helps the Tigers get back on the winning track.

Even at his age Jamie Moyer has been putting up
solid numbers for the Mariners. He has not surrendered
more than 2 runs in any of his last 4 starts and comes
into tonight's game with an era of 1.99 when pitching under
the lights at Safeco Field. Seattle is turning a nice profit
at home in night games 13-6 ($580) and should not have
a problem with Bartolo Colon who is 0-4 with an era of
5.77 on the season. Seattle will be trying to avoid a sweep
here and stay in contention being only 3 games back of
first place in the A.L West.
