Love getting points with a traditionally strong home team as this athletic Vanderbilt squad, just like they did last year in D.C., will win this game outright over the Hoyas. Eighth-ranked Georgetown has some really good core players in forward Jeff Green, center Roy Hibbert and guard Jonathan Wallace, but this team is not deserving of its lofty ranking just yet. Now yes, the Hoyas are going to be much better down the road, but it's going to take some time. The Hoyas are not a great outside shooting team (just 6-of-23 behind the arc in Saturday's uninspiring 10-point home win over Hartford) and they're depending on several players who have no personal history in getting the job done at this level.

No longer can the Hoyas depend on the likes of Ashanti Cook or Darrel Owens to drain open jumpers. Those guys are gone and Vandy tonight will pack it in watch Georgetown shoot outside rock after rock after rock in that already difficult to shoot in Memorial Gym. This is Vandy's opener and coach Kevin Stallings likes this team that will be more full-court oriented than previous Commodore teams. They've got good skill level inside and athleticsm on the perimeter. In their 68-61 win over the Hoyas last year, the Dores held G-Town to 27 percent from behind the arc (6-for-22) while Vandy connected on 8-of-13 such shots. Expect more of the same tonight as Vandy wins outright!

The Bob Huggins era at Kansas State is off and running as the former Cincy coach was wearing a purple suit with a black shirt during this past weekend's unimpressive 10-point win over visiting William & Mary. The Wildcats from top to bottom admit that it's going to take time to get used to Huggins' system. They shot just 30 percent from the field Saturday, and that came after a 33 percent performance in an exhibition against Washburn. If they can't shoot in their own Bramlage Coliseum against those teams, then I don't see them making a ton of shots at the RAC against the Scarlet Knight defense. Tonight is the regular season debut of Rutgers coach Fred Hill, who saw his team hold Caldwell to 33 percent shooting in an exhibition game. Freshman center Hamady N'diaye from Senegal is 6-11 and can make plays on both ends of the court, especially in the defenisve low post. He'll be altering more than his share of shots this evening and Rutgers is the smart play in this non-conference game.
