Wednesday Night Game Rice @ Southern Miss

Just got done capping this game and I tried very hard to find something good about Rice. I rarely like huge chalk, but I'm going to change my tune on this game. Rice is a team still adjusting to a new coach, a new system, and a team that is VERY poor defensively. After looking at their stats and the teams they have played, I found it difficult to like Rice because they can't stop anyone. I know Southern Miss is banged up at the QB position, but handing off to Fletcher isn't a bad option against a team that has given up an average of 53 PPG to Div I teams:scared

Fletcher was the 11th leading rusher nationally last season and he should have over 200 yards tonight. He's off to a slower start this season, but that should change vs. the Owls. Apparently Martevious Young is a bigtime recruit @ QB and although he's making his first start, he's facing a defense that isn't much better than a high school defense.

Prediction: Southern Miss 45 Rice 14

The other angle I like about this game is anyone who watched Southern Miss play last week will be fading them this week... they looked really bad in Boise, but playing in front of the home fans against an awful Owl squad should allow them to pull away to an easy victory. Another game I probably wouldn't touch during the week, but going to play since it's the only game today (I guess that is the definition of a degenerate LOL)
