thanks for the correction but didn't the gophers score a lot of points on that defense? And the badgers shut down the gophers at home. Not saying PSU doesn't have defense but the defense is known..... Wisky has a VERY good unknown defense that plays extremely well at home. Plus they get the freshman back at RB that is a big boost.
Thanks to all the guys with the word of encouragement... always nice to hear that people are reading and getting useful information out of my post... good luck to you all!
Tenn (+3) over LSU
The tigers have not played extremely well away from home. They have a VERY fast team and they hit hard. Will Tennessee's offense be able to find any consistency against the nation's number one defense? With little running game and QB Erik Ainge hobbling on an ankle injury, the Vol offense should have problems cranking out any long, drawn out drives and might have to rely on the big play. That's always dangerous. LSU lost to Florida because it kept screwing up and it bit on a Tim Tebow fake for a long score; the Gator offense didn't exactly move the ball. Auburn's offense went almost nowhere in the 7-3 win gaining just 182 yards. Don't expect fireworks from the Vol attack. running the ball is easy for LSU against Fresno State and Kentucky, but in the big two games, the Tigers went absolutely nowhere. The Tennessee defense should be able to keep the Tiger ground game to under 150 yards and put the game in the hands of QB JaMarcus Russell. Fair or not, there's still a question whether or not the junior can carry the offense when everything's on his shoulders. He threw three picks in the loss to Florida and had a shaky final drive in the loss to Auburn. He was clutch in the 2005 opener at Arizona State and was able to come up with the win at Alabama with a sharp performance, but they jury is still out on whether or not he's a big-game superstar away from home. He can prove all doubters wrong with a win against Tennessee, but he'll have to do it against a Vol secondary that's starting to make more and more big plays. The team that makes mistakes in this game will lose and I think the Tenn offense behind Ainge even hurt will be controled enough to generate points. This will be a smash mouth game and Tenn will need to put it all on the table to win, but being home is a huge boost for Tenn this season. Cutcliff will have a very good game plan set up and even if Tenn cannot run the ball I would think Screens and quick hitters will be many in this game. With the talent at WR for Tenn and the speed of LSU on defense I would doubt the tigers will double cover all day and the WR for Tenn can make a big play on a missed tackle. This is going to be a very good hard fought game...... but I'll take the higher ranked team at home getting points.
Cheers
