Cal (+5.5) over USC
I am not sold on USC at all. They have one some close games but last week against Oregon they did not so much as win the game but take advantage as the Ducks lost the game. Yes Cal is not a good road team but they are still very talented and EXTREMELY pissed off after losing to Arizona. The Golden Bears are one of the few teams in America that possess the offensive speed and diversity to make the USC defense look bad. In RB Marshawn Lynch and WR DeSean Jackson, Cal has a pair of premier game-breakers that the locals are used to seeing, and the nation will get a full view of them in prime time. The Bears pass protect as well as any team in the country, which gives QB Nate Longshore the time he?ll need to locate his trio of talented receivers. In games of this magnitude, turnovers and special teams are always key X factors. Advantage Cal, which leads the Pac-10 in turnover margin and punt return average. John David Booty has been percolating, the defense has allowed just ten points in nine quarters and even hibernating DE Lawrence Jackson got in the act with his first three sacks of 2006. USC may not be all the way back, but it?s evident the team has responded to its Corvallis wake-up call with some of its sharpest performances of the year. Cal?s soft spot is its 112th-ranked pass defense, which Booty will attack with his star receivers Steve Smith and Dwayne Jarrett. The Trojans haven?t lost at home in more than five years, which presents an imposing mystique for every visiting team. It?s one thing to come close; it?s another to actually close the deal. Cal?s not exactly great when it comes winning spotlight games. Cal gives up plenty of passing yards, but compensates with 20 interceptions, more than all but two teams in the country. Daymeion Hughes, one of the premier cover corners in the country, has eight of those picks, setting up one of the most intriguing match ups of the season with the USC receivers. Cal has enough talent to win this contest, it will be tougher given it is at USC but that doesn't change that Cal will come out ready for this game. IMO if the ball bounces favorable for USC they will win but if the breaks are even and no fluck plays occure then I think the bears win this contest. It will be important forthe bears to come out and take it to the torjans early and often. USC has a very good coaching staff and they make very good half time adjustments. Still I like how the bears match up in this game and will also play the ML small.
Rutgers (-7) over Cincy
Look ahead??? Itis amazing that all I hear is Rutgers is thinking WVU already.... are you kidding me. The team montra is chopping wood and keep chopping... you don't look ahead with thoughts like that. They look at every game and every play. They will be able to run the ball as WVU did on the bearcats last week. Yes Cincy has played well but they have been EXTREMELY lucky in where they have gotten team. Getting Ohio St the week before Penn St. Getting VT a week before GT, Getting Louisville the first game with Brohm after a few weeks not playing and getting WVU after a loss. Rutgers is for real and regardless of who they have next week they have a very good coach that will get them ready for this game. Ray Rice and the running game get most of the headlines, but without the play of the defense, Rutgers might be a three-loss team. The unit has been sensational all year long, capped by a dominant scoreless second half that kept Louisville from pulling away. Cincinnati averages just 19 points a game and struggles in pass protection, which is going to leave QB Dustin Grutza in a world of hurt come Sunday morning. They have a lot of speed on defense and they should be able to handle the Cincy offense. Cincy defense can get to the QB but the O-line will open lanes and the Rutgers offense will not need to throw the ball to win. They will throw the ball after the point when Rice sucks all the defense in and the young QB can hook up with the young WR off playaction. Teel is getting better as the season goes on because his recievers are getting more game experience and getting better with him. Look for the TE to get open when all else fails. A lot of youth, speed and swagger for Rutgers and the coach gets it focused on Cincy not WVU.
AR... What can I say if the only beer available is a PAST Blue Ribbon then get me a glass my friend. Because even a bad beer (or game) is better than no beer (or game).:SIB
