Week Dos.....
Thurs Sept 7
HSF Degen: Kennedy-Catholic +10' Juanita (58')
*Thurs Night High School action back to the only state named after a President.... KC Lancers have been a consistent Seamount League Winner going back several years... They were 7-3 in 2016 winning league but stumbling in the playoffs... In 2015, the team notched a 7-1 record with the lone loss coming to State Powerhouse Bellevue 49-15 in playoffs (*Remember Bellevue stopped DeLaSalle from winning its 156 consecutive game)(that game was kinda the spark plug for all these state Goliath to start scheduling teams from different states for bragging rights and prestige)... Sorry, back to where I was... Lancers opened last week with a big win against Seattle Prep 30-20....Lancers are ranked 105 in the state, while Juanita is 100....The Lancers stepped up last year to play in the 4A division and found they could compete.... The QB is very young as a Soph, but has a gunslinger pedigree, as his Father is former UW Star Damon Huard... Also returning LB/OT 6'0" 240 lb Sr Bowen McConville, who garnered First team All League awards (he is strong and fast; placed 2nd in the state in wrestling ly) and has several Div 1 offers....
Juanita got off to a slow start last week losing to Lakes 24-6....in 2015 Rebels finished 4-6, and was 9-3 in 2014.....These two haven't scheduled each other in the past so not much of a head to head record for seasons past..... The teams biggest loss from last year was their RB S Ahmed 5'11" who was a punishing runner and only played 6 games due to a broken hand but still rushed for 1,300 yards w/13 TDs.... He also won US Army All State honors, the Blue Chip athlete signed with UW and saw playing time last weekend when the Huskies played Rutgers as a true Frosh....... The Rebels returned 8 offensive starters and 6 on defense.... HC Lele Te'o says his team possesses high flying capability and the plan was to score a ton of points through the air.... In 2016, the team averaged 25.8 ppg and gave up 25.1...the Oline is expected to be a strong one with several returnees and returns QB and Top WR.... Most snaps were taken by JD Worcester (Sr 6'4" 185) was All League Honorable Mention but has decided to play WR/DB and is expected to go Div 1.....Sr John Nascimento is 6'2" 300 lb Olineman as is All League Jr S?bastien Garza.... Sr Gio Caggliano-Whilmot 5'10" 185 will lead the Defense from the Free Safety position....
I'm not sure what exactly happened to the greatest show on earth last week as Juanita was shut out 24-0 until they finally got on the scoreboard with less than 5 minutes remaining to Lakes..... I do think Jr QB Jake Hohu is a work in progress and he did drive the Rebels down to the 10 yard line a couple of times however, they didn't take advantage and Lakes shut them down each time.....
I thought this might be a good play for the Over as this game has the potential to be a barn burner... But I can't get that lousy 6 points Rebels put up out of my head... Upon further reflection, I think 8 points was too many for a team that hasn't proved they can get it done... The line moved to 10' and I pounced as this one should stay fairly close and I wouldn't be surprised if Juanita starts the season 0-2.......Play K-C +10' over Rebels for 2 units....
WINNA Final: K-C 40 Juanita 34
