See the problem is that even though I can grow hydroponically here without too much trouble as long as I keep it to a few plants I wouldn't even know where to start to find out how to obtain a strain like this to cultivate on my own.

You can order seeds online. I've done it a few times in the past with good results. You could also take a drive to Colorado. Then you could smoke it before you grow it.
