Week 4 - Bears/Seahawks

Time to discuss this one. Im having a hard time pulling the trigger, but with the injury of Alexander confirmed, Im thinking the Bears have everything in place. :shrug:

Seattle is 1-3-1 ATS in its last 5 on the road

The Bears are 6-1 ATS at home in the last 7 and 5-0 SU most recently


At first glance, I saw that the Seahawks were commanding the matchups between these teams going 5-1 SU in the last 6 meetings, but looking further I see that their most recent matchup was October of 2003.

I'd really appreciate everyone's early thoughts, Im considering making the Bears 1/2 of my Sunday 2 team teaser.

True last year the only losses they had were on the road, but still that means they went 5-3. They're 6-1 on the road since losing a couple in early 2005.

Nonetheless they are still a different looking team away from home (and for sure without alexander)

What do you guys make of the Hag backers claiming the loss of Alexander wont effect their offense much? :shrug:

A quick disclaimer.... I live in Seattle so I follow these guys pretty closely. Having said that, the loss of Alexander will definitely affect them. To be honest I would much rather watch Mo Morris run because, although he's much smaller than Alexander, he's willing to go at defenders and sock them in the mouth. Alexander is the only RB I've ever seen that actually hook slides to avoid getting hit. He wasn't having a good year thus far, but without him in there the Bears don't have to respect the run.

On the O-line Spencer is a good replacement at LG but this game will be just his 2nd start. Chris Gray, the RG, sprained his knee but is supposed to play against Chicago. I doubt he will be 100% though.

The Bears D is ranked fourth in the NFL. As I said before, I think they can pin their ears back and come after Hass all day since they don't have to respect the run. I don't think the Hawks will even get to 10 points. Unless Grossman completely craps the bed, I don't see Chicago losing at home.

The loss of Alexander will affect them but not as much as you think. I watched the entire Seattle/AZ game and it was obvious that Alexander was hurt. Morris looked good and ran much harder then Alexander was. Seattle will miss Alexander in the red zone. Everyone knows how much of a nose Alexander has for the end zone when he gets in that area. Overall, Morris is a competent replacement for Alexander and I don't think it is too much of a loss. At Chicago I see Seattle getting down early anyways so their running game with or without Alexander will most likely be non-existent

This is a good point. I don't think the Hawks were going to run on Chicago no matter who was playing. However, if Alexander had started I really think the Bears would have accounted for him and gameplanned to shut him down. I completely agree that Morris is a competent backup, but he won't have a big game against that D. I think they can now focus their energy on shutting down the passing game and rattling Hass now that Alexander is out. I feel sorry for Hass already...

i see bears winning by at least 7. at home, no alexander, bears will be tough. the hawks wont have their fans screaming so loud the o line of bears will have a bunch of false starts. the only thing i think that will beat the bears; is the bears beating themselves.
this game and the cowboy's game are the surest bets for me.,but i'm a cowboy homer, fwiw.

I do see the Bears winning but I don't think it will be as easy as everyone thinks. Seattle has a very good and underrated defense. Their LB's are awesome and their DB's are great as well. They bring a lot of pressure that forces a lot of mistakes. All this said, I think Rex will struggle. I watched him last week and he looked like the same old Rex- slinging off his back foot, sidearming everything. Hopefully the Bears OL will give him time and Rex won't make any mistakes. Seattles defense worries me

They do have a good D. Their LBs are unreal... Peterson, Tatupu, Hill, and their D line is very underrated. I'm still not sold on their pass D though. If they can get pressure then their pass D looks very good, but when they don't they get picked apart. Trufant is decent, but I don't think he's as good as everyone thinks. Herndon is great against the run, but isn't a great coverage guy. Jennings will be the best of the bunch, but right now he's a rookie and is still learning on the fly. Hamlin and Boulware are both very good safeties, I do admit that. And you're right, if they can get pressure on Rex the Bears could be in trouble. Rex is just not a good QB.

I'll put in my 2 cents.....

Bears coming off 3 divsion games which they won. Is this a spot where they can have a little letdown.
Seattle has a bye next week and can afford to give a little extra, the NYG game last week did'nt take much out of them since they cruised the whole game.

Bears running game has'nt been much (avg. 2.7 rushing), but they have passed for an avg.of 273 a game. On defense Chi has allowed only 7 3rd down conversions in 35 attempts, thats tremendous! Sea. has only avg. #'s offensively & defensively and most of it came vs. the jints this past week.

The coaching staff has to realize the since Seattle has an easier division schedule than the bears, that a win here at home will keep them a step ahead in the battle for conference championship.

Bears want it more. I'd lay a FG or less.

I love it when everyone talks themselves into a bet. No one wants to lose. And it sure feels better when people agree with you opinion.

This is all I need to know about this game. One team beat Carlolina last year when it counted and the other team did not.

This Chicago team has NEVER won a game that matters. So quote all the ATS stats you want but my $$$ is going on the team that has WON a big game!

The 3 1/2 is a gift, Take the points.....No way da' Bears, with Rex "I finally threw my 1st TD in the 4th quarter" Grossman, wins let alone by more than a field goal.

da' HAWKS +3 1/2....its a winner!
