NIU -7 pretty big...
Winds should be over 20mph all game. Will hurt a WMU team who needs to air it out on offense. (15th ranked pass O). NIU will benefit from keeping it on the ground. 11th ranked rush O, and the better rush defense. WMU is ranked 106th in rush offense. Normally I'd stay away from this, but with winds 20mph and greater throughout the game, I think it will really hurt the WMU pass game and give a decisive edge to NIU. NIU should control the clock and game on the ground. If the weather was perfect conditions, WMU might be worth a look, but with windy conditions, I have to think the passing game takes a big hit.
NIU is a very solid team in all aspects, in my opinion, and they have the things you want in a team to back. They are disciplined, only average 3.6 penalties per game which is tied for 2nd best in the country. They have a superior rushing attack which gives them the ability to control the clock. And they have an above average defense. They have been on a roll after losing by 6 @ Illinois, snapping off 5 wins in a row going into todays game and looking to go to 5-0 in the MAC.
Playing road favs always seem to bite you in the ass, but with the conditions today, I think its a good play.
